Learn how to easily complete the Unpaid Tab mission in Borderlands 4 by defeating Driller Hole and saving Quent in the Old Refinery.
Unpaid Tab is the ninth main mission in Borderlands 4, and it begins right after the massive battle at the end of Siege and Destroy. Having saved Carcadia from the Rippers, you are tasked with repairing key points in the city, entering the Old Refinery, and rescuing an ally in danger. You can prepare for the quest by acquiring a strong Corrosive weapon and completing side missions to reach level 13.

Completing Unpaid Tab rewards you with:
- Epic or Rare SMG
- SICKO (ECHO-4 Frame)
- Cash, XP, and Eridium
Part 1: Repair Carcadia
Begin the mission by speaking with Yorick at the Ruined Sumplands, who will ask you to restore power to Carcadia. Repair the relay station by shooting the Ripper Orbs marked by red circles. After shooting all 11 orbs around the relay station, flip the switch at the terminal to restore power.
Interact with the machine opposite the relay to repair the fast-travel station. Then, interact with the terminal in the main building and do the same with the three water valves outside. With the vending machines repaired and the water supply restored, it is time to leave the city on a daring rescue mission.

Part 2: Enter the Old Refinery
Zane has gone missing, and Levaine suspects he plans to take on the entire Ripper army to avenge Sophia’s death. Head to the Firedust Bridge south of Carcadia, clear the Rippers there, and turn the first valve to lower one half of the bridge. When the second valve doesn’t work, shoot the marked beams supporting the bridge to lower and cross it.
Kill the Rippers at Zane’s last known location and save Quent in the process. Quent informs you that Zane entered the abandoned Order Refinery a while ago. Travel east toward the refinery and use the intercom at its front entrance. Since the front entrance is sealed, you’ll have to access the back entrance using a password.
Venture to the Eastern and Western Camps and kill their leaders to collect the ECHOs with the password. Head to the back entrance of the Old Refinery and interact with its intercom to enter the Ripper-infested structure.
Part 3: Rescue the Prisoners
Inside the Old Refinery, you will find Zane, who begins assisting you in battle. When Ripper reinforcements arrive, led by Security Jones, stick close to Zane, as he can revive you if you get downed. Interact with the jamming device, then use the grapple hook to reach the platform above it and slam the device. Take the elevator to the lower level with Zane and prepare to fight more Rippers.

Driller Hole Boss Fight
Follow Zane and drop down a tunnel to reach the prisoners. After killing all the Rippers, you will face the mission’s boss, Driller Hole. The boss has an armored health bar and deals Radiation Damage. Here are some tips on how to defeat him:
- Use Corrosive Damage to chew through the armored health bar before switching to another elemental weapon.
- Try to take out the regular Ripper enemies first to focus on Driller Hole without interruption.
- When your shield breaks, run around the circular arena, away from the boss, to recharge it before getting back to the fight.
- Use the platforms around the arena for a vantage point and piles of junk for cover.
- Driller Hole’s bombardment will create pools of radiation. Keep moving to avoid taking damage from them.
- Target Driller Hole’s head to land critical hits and quickly deplete his health.

Borderlands 4: How To Save Quent in Unpaid Tab
After defeating Driller Hole at the end of Unpaid Tab, you have the option to save or lose Quent. To save Quent, you must destroy the pipes leading into the central refinery machine.
- Shoot the 3 large pipes highlighted in red. They are located on the ceiling surrounding the machine.
- Grapple 6 green handles connecting to the top of the machine to destroy the smaller pipes.
If you destroy all the fuel inlet pipes within 60 seconds, Quent is saved. If you fail to destroy the machine in time, Quent dies. His death does not impact the rewards you receive for the quest and does not change the main story’s outcome.
