PEAK’s Mesa update has introduced many new additions to the game, which include a massive change to the Kiln region. The Kiln is the final region of the game, which consists of a lengthy vertical climb inside a volcano. The Mesa update has overhauled the area, and now the lava starts to rise from the bottom, which slowly turns the stone hotter and burns you as well.

Currently, there is no way to stop the lava from rising in PEAK, not even in the Tenderfoot mode. This is a permanent change to the Kiln biome for now, with no further official news about this from the developers.

The lava rising in the Kiln biome has received mixed reviews from players on Steam due to the increased difficulty. Experienced players are enjoying the new challenge, while casual players see their run end in the final biome more often than before. Fortunately, the developers have interacted in a community forum on Steam, complaining about this new mechanic.

The top comment in the discussion suggests that rising lava should be limited to higher Ascent difficulties and removed from lower ones, so everyone can enjoy it as they wish. One of the developers mentioned that they will pass the idea to the team. Given the positive interactions between the developers and the community, there is a good chance that the suggested idea might be implemented in some form.

Tips on Getting Past Rising Lava in PEAK

Here are some tips you can employ when climbing the updated Kiln in PEAK:

  • Stock up on multiple Chain Launchers. You can use them to create easy climbing pathways to the top.
  • Balloons are new items added in the Mesa update. You can use multiple Balloons on yourself to float upwards while jumping.
  • Use Pitons on walls to create temporary resting spaces to recover stamina.
  • Save up on food before entering the Kiln. The only food source in this region is through luggage bags, which does not guarantee a food drop.
