Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a game that rewards exploration in abundance. There are secret items, journals, enemies, and bosses around every corner, of which the bosses may be the most exciting. All the bosses test your mechanical prowess, and the Chromatic Reaper Cultist is no different in that regard.
Found near the Sky Island in the Continent, the Chromatic Reaper Cultist punishes players who spam the parry button. This boss mixes in slow, methodical strikes with a flurry of fast-paced combos, making it difficult to read. If this boss and its ridiculous combos are giving you a hard time, we have you covered. The Chromatic Reaper Cultist is weak to Dark-based damage and is resistant to Light-based attacks. Moreover, the boss is also aerial, meaning she can dodge your attacks. Your best bet to beating this boss is to use your Free-Aim shots to mark the target and deal damage. As soon as the fight starts, pull out your gun and shoot the flying orbs near her head. Continue to deal damage till you’re out of AP. Go for a regular attack at the end to replenish AP.
However, dealing damage with Free Aim isn’t enough and is excruciatingly slow. The better way of dealing damage is through counterattacks. Equip the Augmented Counter Pictos/Lumina to deal extra damage with counters.
There are two attacks you need to be wary of when fighting the Chromatic Reaper Cultist. The first of these is the Projectile Attack. The boss swings her sword around, launching dark orbs with each swing. This is a three-hit attack and fairly easy to parry. The projectiles are launched a mere moment after the sword completes its swing. Parry right after each swing to counterattack.
The second attack the Chromatic Reaper Cultist uses is the Sycthe Attack. This is a 7-hit combo with the first two hits being predictable. Hit numbers 3,4,5, and 6 are rapid, fast attacks to keep tapping the parry button during this phase. The seventh hit is a slow vertical slash, so watch for the delay. Counterattack all the boss’s attacks to win the fight.
