Upgrades boost your speed, stamina, and loot capacity. A jetpack even joins the fun. Don’t forget the cake, as stamina won’t refill itself. You’ll face dangers underground, but the treasure’s worth it. Play solo or bring friends along for the adventure. Dig, sell, upgrade, and repeat.
How to Start Playing Dig the Backyard
When you first load into Dig the Backyard, you’ll spawn in a backyard with a basic shovel. Your goal is simple: dig through the ground, collect anything valuable, and sell it for cash. Use the computer in the shed to sell items in bulk. Just click the “Sell” button, and your backpack empties instantly.
The game follows a tight loop. First, dig until your stamina runs out or your backpack is full. Then, return to the shed to refuel and sell your loot. Finally, use your cash to buy upgrades that make the next digging session more efficient. Stick to this loop to make steady progress.
Every time you dig, you lose stamina. It won’t refill automatically. You’ll need to eat food or drink energy drinks to restore it. If you run out, go back to the shed and eat cake to refill it for free. Never go too deep without checking your stamina level.
Upgrade as Often as Possible
Spend your earnings wisely. Focus on upgrading these four things: your shovel, your backpack, your stamina, and your jetpack. A better shovel helps you dig faster and defeat enemies. A bigger backpack means fewer trips to the surface. More stamina lets you dig longer. The jetpack helps you move quickly between levels.
Not all items are equal. Rocks are the most common and least valuable. Precious metals and diamonds sell for much more. As you dig deeper, the items you find become more valuable. Prioritize rare items when your backpack gets full.
Use Bonfires as Checkpoints
Bonfires act as fast-travel points. Activate them whenever you find one. This lets you return to that point later without digging back down manually. Always interact with bonfires when you see them.
As you dig deeper, enemies start appearing. If they hit you, you’ll die and return to the hub world. That ends your run. You can fight back using your shovel, but it needs upgrades to be effective. Don’t ignore combat readiness. Failing mid-run means losing progress, though you still earn coins to buy tools like dynamite.
Navigating the Game
Use the WASD keys for movement around the backyard. The spacebar allows you to jump, and if you’ve purchased a jetpack, holding the spacebar will activate it. Equip your tools using the number keys, and the left mouse button is used for digging or attacking if necessary. Interaction with objects, like the computer or food items, is done via the ‘E’ key.
Play with Friends
Dig the Backyard supports up to four players. Teaming up helps speed up digging, manage enemies, and collect loot more efficiently. It’s also more fun when you’re not grinding alone. If you’re stuck, bring a friend and split the digging.
Eventually, you’ll discover a hidden mine deep underground. This area leads to the final treasure. Reaching it requires consistent upgrades, smart stamina use, and some luck. Once you activate the bonfire near the treasure, it becomes your checkpoint.
Stay patient. Focus on upgrades. Don’t forget to refuel. Stick to the loop, and you’ll get there.
