Date Everything: How To Date Daemon (Glitch Character)

Daemon, a sentient glitch in Date Everything, offers meta commentary and unconventional endings that lead to intriguing conversations.

Daemon is one of the most fascinating and unique characters in Date Everything. He was originally meant to be Deenah the dresser, but gained sentience as a glitch after she was removed from the game. As a self-aware bug in the game’s code, Daemon speaks directly to the player rather than the protagonist, breaking the fourth wall. He has a content sensitivity warning due to mature existential themes.

Where To Find Daemon in Date Everything

You can meet Daemon as soon as the game begins, as he resides in the starting area. Scan the wooden dresser in your bedroom—the one under the mirror—to find Daemon. He will not be unlocked as a regular character would after his introduction.

Daemon is unlike any other character in Date Everything. According to him, he was originally Deenah, a character embodying the dresser. However, there was too much thematic overlap with Dasha and Abel, who represent similar furniture items. Since she couldn’t stand out on her own, Deenah was cut from the game, and the code left behind became Daemon.

You can reach an ending with Daemon soon after meeting him. In fact, he will ask you to choose one:

  • daemon_ending = hate.
  • daemon_ending = friendship.
  • daemon_ending = love.

The ending you choose will be marked with Deenah since Daemon isn’t meant to exist. Furthermore, you can change the ending every time you talk to him. The point of interacting with Daemon isn’t to reach any particular ending, but rather to take a peek behind the curtain with this meta character. Speaking with the bug can break your immersion entirely, but force introspection on profound subjects beyond love and dating.

There are several interesting dialogue paths to choose from with Daemon, each more confusing and game-breaking than the last. The glitch makes very little sense between one line of dialogue and the next, but throughout your interactions with him, you will get a sense of his incomplete and sullen personality.

Daemon uses the protagonist’s dialogue options to speak with the player directly, often trapping you in loops. Other characters appear on the screen randomly, only to freeze as Daemon continues his broken chain of thoughts. Most of your conversations take place outside the bounds of the house, allowing you to see areas you can’t traverse normally.

Devs and Daemon Storyline

Daemon’s story isn’t standalone, and evolves when you use the Dateviators on the game’s credits screen and talk with Sassy Chap, the developers. You can speak to them about Daemon’s existence, and they will express interest in patching him out of the game. Speak with the glitch to inform him about this and go back and forth between the two. Eventually, patching Daemon doesn’t work and you can speak with the bug to convey that the devs want him out of the house.

Daemon will agree to move to the second house across the street. However, he will also give you the ability to leave the house without using the front door. The technique works by crouching next to the dresser and clipping through the wall. You can then visit Daemon, who has taken the form of a box in front of the brick house.
