Runes are socketable items that grant additional effects to your weapons and gears when assigned to the slots. They come in three rarities — Magic, Rare, and Legendary, with Legendary being the most valuable and powerful. However, obtaining Legendary runes is not an easy task, especially since Blizzard reduced the drop rates in Season 7.
With fewer farming ways and lower drop rates, the only reliable way to obtain Legendary runes is by converting Rare runes. This guide explains how to obtain Rare runes and convert them into Legendary runes in Diablo 4.

Ways to Farm Rare Runes in Diablo 4
You can obtain runes only if you own the Vessel of Hatred DLC Expansion. There are a few ways to get runes in Diablo 4, including defeating World bosses and Tormented bosses, opening Whisper Caches, completing seasonal activities, and farming Kurast Undercity.
Among them, Kurast Undercity and Tormented bosses serve as the most reliable ways to farm Rare runes. Defeating Tormented bosses, especially Duriel and Andariel has a high chance of dropping Rare runes. However, these bosses require specific materials to summon them.
Completing the Kurast Undercity dungeon is another reliable way to farm Rare runes. Offering Tributes of Harmony in Kurast Undercity guarantees the Rare rune drops when defeating bosses. You can acquire these Tributes of Harmony through The Pit or the Blood Maiden in Helltide events.
How to Craft Legendary Runes from Rare Runes in Diablo 4
Once you have an adequate amount of Rare runes, you can try your luck at converting them into Legendary runes with the Jeweler. Jewelers can convert three of the same runes into a completely different rune, with a 15% chance of offering one that is a tier higher.
This means that using three same Rare runes has a chance to convert them into a random Legendary rune. Since this process only has a 15% chance of providing a Legendary rune on each try, you may need to attempt it multiple times, expending a large number of Rare runes.
