Luigi Mangione’s name has been all over the news since yesterday. The 26-year-old was arrested after being named a “strong person of interest” in the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Hours after the reports of his arrest went live, a YouTube channel under the name “Luigi Mangione” uploaded a minute-and-a-half-long video titled “The Truth.” The video depicted a clock counting down, with the following words written in it:

“If you see this, I’m already under arrest…All is scheduled, be patient. Bye for now.”

The cryptic nature of the post naturally piqued a lot of curiosity among netizens. Within a few hours, the channel ended up garnering over a thousand subscribers. The video was also reshared by the popular online news outlet Drama Alert (@DramaAlert). However, the official Team YouTube page responded to this post, revealing that the YouTube channel was, in fact, a fake one. At the time of writing, the channel in question is no longer accessible on the platform. YouTube wrote:

“Chiming in to confirm that our teams terminated this channel for violating our impersonation policies, after carefully reviewing a number of signals.”

While Mangione might not have a publicly known YouTube channel, he did have an X.com account under the handle @PepMangione. On X, he has over 280K followers (a number that keeps rising). His last activity was on June 20, when he reposted a post about Andrew Huberman’s podcast.

Who Is Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione is facing serious charges for his alleged involvement in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Born into a wealthy family in Maryland, he graduated from the prestigious Gilman School and later earned a degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science, along with a minor in mathematics. He was also briefly employed in the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies program.

As for the alleged murder, no official confession or reports have been released regarding the motive. Many have speculated that Mangione may have acted out of anger towards U.S. health insurance companies.

He also has an extensive Goodreads page, where fans have uncovered his reviews. One particularly striking review states, “violence is necessary to survive” when all other forms of communication fail.

New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that Mangione was arrested while he was at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. One of the workers in the store recognized him from police photos and alerted them.

Authorities found Mangione with multiple fake IDs, a U.S. passport, and a ghost gun. A ghost gun is a homemade firearm, but it remains unclear if this weapon was used in the murder.
