Split Fiction offers some flexible co-op features—here’s what you need to know about its crossplay options.

Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction plunges players into interweaving landscapes of sleek sci-fi and high fantasy, following two authors trapped within their own fictional worlds. With two-player cooperative gameplay forming the bedrock of Split Fiction’s adventure, questions arise about playing the game cooperatively across different platforms, such as the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Crossplay in Split Fiction

Yes, Split Fiction supports crossplay and cross-platform functionality. The game allows co-op invites to be extended across platforms, so players won’t face restrictions when teaming up with friends on different devices. What’s more, Hazelight goes a step further and offers a Friend’s Pass system.
The system allows the owner of a Split Fiction copy to invite a friend to play cooperatively without having to purchase another copy. And yes, the friend can be invited from any device that supports Split Fiction, which means cross-platform play. Crossplay-supported platforms include PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Split Fiction is the spiritual successor to the studio’s award-winning co-op game, It Takes Two. While It Takes Two and its predecessor—A Way Out—also have the Friend’s Pass system, it did not support crossplay on launch. To make use of the Friend’s Pass, the joining player needs to install the Split Fiction Friend’s Pass on their system and accept an in-game invite from their friend who owns the copy.
Once they accept the invite, they can hop into the imaginative world of Split Fiction with their friend. However, there is no information shared by the developers about the game having cross-progression, which likely means that one cannot save story progression on the device with the Friend’s Pass.
Steam Remote Play Together in Split Fiction

When it comes to co-op play options across devices, there are even more options for Steam players. As with It Takes Two and A Way Out, Split Fiction will support Steam’s Remote Play Together. The feature allows devices with Steam installed to stream the game from the owner’s PC, and play using their own controller or mouse and keyboard.
Since the invited player will be streaming the game, their hardware won’t even have to meet the minimum system requirements for Split Fiction. However, they will need a fast internet connection and low ping on both devices for a smooth gaming experience.
