Unfortunately for fans of the character, Ryomen Sukuna met his end at the hands of Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268. In chapter 268 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Ryomen Sukuna finally met his end at the hands of Yuji Itadori after a long-drawn battle against the Jujutsu Tech sorcerers. After his monumental battle against Satoru Gojo, The King of Curses was already down to his last legs. In spite of that, he managed to dominate the majority of his opponents with his overwhelming power.

With time, however, Sukuna’s hold on Megumi Fushiguro’s body weakened due to Yuji’s repeated soul strikes. In chapter 268, Sukuna was seen trying to make one last attempt to completely subdue Megumi’s soul by convincing him to give up. Fortunately, Megumi managed to fight back and put up enough of a resistance to allow Yuji to land the finishing blow on Sukuna, which completely separated the King of Curses from his body.

Following this, Yuji offered Sukuna one last chance to return to his body. Despite everything he had done, Yuji wanted to try living with Sukuna one more time. However, Sukuna ended up rejecting Yuji’s sympathy and preferred to die as a curse instead. With this, Sukuna’s reign of terror in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen officially came to an end.

What Sukuna Faced in the Afterlife

Sukuna’s afterlife scene took place in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, the finale of the series. The scene began with Sukuna coming face to face with Mahito’s vestige in the Pathway that souls walk on their way down the cycle.

This scene marked an important change in Sukuna’s character. When confronted by Mahito about the true nature of his actions and way of living, Sukuna reflected on his past. Apparently, he had not one but two different paths he could have taken in his former life. After living a life wreaking havoc and wanting revenge on those who resented him, Sukuna admitted that if he gets a second opportunity at life, he would like to take a different path.

Sukuna even admitted to Mahito’s claim that he had changed and gotten ‘soft’, saying that it was only obvious since he had lost. The scene ended with Sukuna walking down a different path with his loyal follower Uraume, which left Mahito infuriated. This scene portrays the profound change that Yuji may have possibly brought about in Sukuna’s heart.

Furthermore, Sukuna’s decision to change his ways can also be interpreted as him choosing to go ‘North”—where he would be able to become someone new. This decision is also in direct contrast to Satoru Gojo’s decision to go ‘South’, since he wanted to return to the time he was happiest with Geto and his other friends.

The Aftermath of Sukuna’s Death

In the aftermath of Sukuna’s death, things returned to normal for Yuji Itadori and his friends at Jujutsu High. With the King of Curses now gone, everyone returned to their usual lives as jujutsu sorcerers.

In chapter 269, Maki and the rest of the sorcerers were seen reflecting on their battle against Sukuna, discussing how they could have done things more efficiently. The following chapters tied up some loose ends and character arcs, including Megumi giving his sister a proper burial and him reconciling with Hana.

The final page of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271 featured a subtle foreshadowing of Sukuna’s return, showing one of his fingers locked inside a box. Although there might not be any particular meaning to this panel, it was a direct callback to the first chapter of the manga. Fans can interpret this scene as the series ending in a similar manner to where it all began.
