Rambi Rumble is a minigame found within the Racing Layer in Donkey Kong Bananza. It involves riding a rhinoceros in a race against Diddy and Dixie Kong to win the big trophy and progress to the planet’s core.

Diddy and Dixie Kong’s Rambi Rumble kept the prospecting monkeys entertained after they were blown away by the vortex. Upon meeting DK, they challenge him to a race, with the gigantic trophy at stake. Beating them requires an understanding of the race’s mechanics, tricks, and the use of shortcuts.

After arriving at the Racing Layer, head to the reception and speak with Diddy and Dixie Kong to begin the three-lap race. Before the race starts, you will enter a practice lap. Use it to familiarize yourself with the track and the minigame’s controls.

  • Left Stick: Steering
  • A/B/X/Y: Jump
  • ZR: Lift off

The Lift Off mechanic works by racing through dirt or gold to fill up the Lift Off gauge. Holding down “ZR” will launch you into the air, leaving a trail of iridescent ore behind while depleting the gauge. The best place to use Lift off is on the rainbow-colored ramps or the ramps made by Diddy and Dixie’s ore trail. Doing so grants an additional boost to speed and lift off height.

On the second and third lap, you can climb your own ore trails from previous laps for a speed and height boost.  Lifting off at the right time is important to avoid obstacles, increase speed, and take shortcuts.

Shortcuts

There are two main shortcuts in Rambi Rumble. The first and obvious shortcut is to lift off right before the tunnel on the final corner. While the track above the tunnel isn’t shorter in terms of distance, it avoids the ensnaring mud present on the ground level. To take this shortcut, fill up the gauge completely before the tunnel, and hold the Lift off button on the rainbow-colored ramp leading up to it.

The second shortcut lets you bypass half of the race. To access it, fill up the gauge by the end of the first corner. Then, jump and begin lifting off toward the floating platform ahead, on the left side. Land on the platform, fill up the gauge by collecting the gold on it, and lift off toward the pink platform. Run to the end of the pink platform and drop down to the finish line, completing the lap while skipping half the race.
