Dream explained his ongoing controversy with TommyInnit. He also addressed the DM he sent to his mon in March 2024.
Currently, Minecraft streamers Clay “Dream” and Thomas “TommyInnit” are engaged in a heated feud online. The drama started when Dream posted a meme where he essentially called TommyInnit’s fans “r*tarded.” Since then, he has faced a lot of backlash for using a seemingly offensive slur. He has since streamed on Twitch to explain his feud with TommyInnit, which included him addressing a DM he sent TommyInnit’s mother almost a year ago.
For context, back in March 2024, TommyInnit’s mother, Sarah (@MrsSarahSimons), took to her X account to explain that a content creator (without naming which one) messaged her, criticizing his son (Tommy). In the post, she wrote:
“The only DM I’ve not deleted is one from an entitled content creator, who had the nerve to send me a massive essay DM, on why my son’s bad. The arrogance! A grown man complaining to the mum of his former pal. Playground behavior. As if I’d go, ‘Actually, you’re right.’ Blew my mind.”
She did not mention Dream directly in her post. However, due to the fallout between the Minecraft streamer and her son, fans speculated that the message was intended for Dream. He confirmed this during his stream today.
What Did Dream Say About the DM He Sent To TommyInnit’s Mum?
Dream has finally commented on the controversy with TommyInnit, especially after being called out by Tommy’s mother on X for sending her a long paragraph apologizing for her son. The streamer explained that he had reached out to Sarah because she had been “tweeting” about other creators. He said:
“She is on Twitter, actively tweeting at people, and I privately reach out, saying, ‘Hey, just so you know, you’re saying stuff about this video that involves me and you’re interacting with my fans. Here is my opinion.’ I think that is, in my mind, is very reasonable. Again, I think that if I go back, I wouldn’t do it. Primarily because, clearly, it really upset him and also upset his mom, which I don’t want to do that.”
He added that his intentions were not to upset Tommy or his Mom, but to let her know his opinions:
“My intention with his message was not at all to upset his mom or upset him. It was literally just, ‘Hey! You’re saying this publicly. You’re getting attacked by people publicly, I want to let you know how I feel about that, I want to make sure you’re not okay with that. I want to make sure you know my personal opinion on the video, and I want to make sure you know the impact that’s having on me and my family.'”

Why Did He DM TommyInnit’s Mum?
To provide further context to the controversy, Dream DM’d TommyInnit’s mom after Tommy uploaded a skit video satirizing a feud between Dream and Quackity. This naturally upset many of Dream’s fans, leading them to attack Tommy online.
Most of the allegations were that TommyInnit had targeted ableist comedy, especially considering that the Minecraft streamer has identified with autism. TommyInnit’s mother certainly defended her son following the controversy. This link has a compilation of her responses.
Following the series of posts by TommyInnit’s mother, Dream ended up reaching out to her. His message included him agreeing that the video was ableist, but he criticized TommyInnit for sparking the drama.
