The Duos Mode in Elden Ring Nightreign is finally here, and outside of the Everdark bosses, it’s easily the most significant addition to the game since its launch. Despite being a multiplayer-focused title, Nightreign initially offered only a three-player co-op mode upon release. While there was a dedicated “solo” mode in the game, Nighreign never featured any two-player mode, which was quite surprising. Even Elden Ring, which is used as the base for Nightreign, offers a two-player co-op mode.

However, following the release of update 1.2.0, Duos Mode is officially a part of Nightreign. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s Duos Mode, and how to access it.

How To Start the Duos Mode in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Accessing the Duos Mode in Elden Ring Nightreign is a fairly straightforward process. You essentially need to head to the Roundtable Hold and use the Expedition menu to access the Duos Mode. It’s basically the same process as switching between the multiplayer and single-player modes. That said, the two-player mode does add some limitations to the Invite Friends system. Unlike in the regular three-player mode, with two-player mode active, you can only add one friend to your lobby.

Here are the steps to access the Duos (two-player) Mode:

  • Head to the Roundtable Hold and access the Expeditions menu.
  • From the Expeditions menu, head to the Multiplayer Settings page.
  • Under Multiplayer Settings, go to Expedition Type and select Two-Players.

Make sure that the Expedition Type is set before inviting friends via the Team Session option.

What Are the Changes in Duos Mode?

The Duos Mode essentially remains identical to the three-player and solo modes of Nightreign. However, the game does introduce some balance-related changes for two players. Unlike in the single-player mode, Rune acquisition isn’t affected in the Duos Mode. However, enemy and boss HP, as well as aggression, are reduced compared to the default three-player mode. Furthermore, the RNG aspect of the game stays identical, and so do the Shifting Earth events.

Additional Notes

It should be noted that while Nightlord’s HP is also adjusted for two players, it’s not reduced to the same level as the single-player mode. Nightlords and Night bosses will pose a similar level of threat as they do in the default three-player mode.
