Elden Ring Nightreign is essentially a boss rush mode where you go through the greatest hits of Soulsborne bosses in a roguelike format. You play through each day, fighting minibosses, leveling up, collecting gear, and then concluding the day by facing a Night boss.

The Night bosses are challenging, especially as you’re learning your way around the game’s mechanics. The Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus is one such boss you face early on in the game.

The Crucible Knight is challenging enough on his own, but becomes doubly so with the Golden Hippopotamus running about the arena. If you’re struggling against this Night boss, we’re here to help. In this guide, we will go over how to beat the Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Overview of the Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus in Elden Ring Nightreign

The Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus is a duo boss that you fight at the end of one of the days in Limveld. In our experience, we’ve fought this boss often at the end of Day 2 in the Gaping Jaw expedition.

The boss starts off as a fight with just the knight, with the Hippo joining in halfway through. This fight requires you to effectively manage the Hippo while also dealing with the hard-hitting strikes of the Crucible Knight. This becomes more difficult when the knight enters his second phase, where he uses his tail to sweep the arena for AoE damage. To beat this boss, one person needs to take on the Hippo, giving the other teammates enough time to deal with the Crucible Knight.

Tips To Easily Defeat the Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus in Elden Ring Nightreign

As stated earlier, the Crucible Knight and Golden Hippopotamus are a duo Night boss. As soon as the fight starts, you’re up against the knight solo. Dealing damage here is easy as long as one person consistently takes aggro, allowing the teammates to strike from behind.

Once you get the Crucible Knight to the halfway point, the Golden Hippopotamus joins the fight. While the battle may seem impossible now, it is important to stick to the strategy. One person must continue to aggro the knight, with a second attacking him from behind.

The third teammate needs to deal with the Hippo alone. We recommend putting an Ironeye on Hippo duty, as he is agile and can easily evade the Hippo’s charges. Once the knight is dealt with, you can focus all your efforts on the Golden Hippopotamus to beat him and finish the fight.
