Elden Ring Nightreign features roguelike gameplay with a somewhat randomly generated map for each match. Among the various landmarks dotting the landscape are Mage Towers, tall stone structures surrounded by blue crystals. These towers present a simple yet tricky puzzle that you need to complete before looting the items on the second floor. The loot from the tower is particularly advantageous for magic users and intelligence-scaling Nightfarers like the Recluse. This guide will help you save valuable time during your run by outlining the quickest methods to open and loot Mage Towers.

How To Loot a Mage Tower in Elden Ring Nightreign

There are two kinds of Mage Towers in the game, which you can identify right away by appraising their entrance. They either have the door open or sealed. In both cases, you need to locate the hidden crest in or around the tower and break it to unlock the upper floor of the tower or the entrance. Then, climb to the top from inside the structure and loot the Dormant Power.

Open Door Mage Towers

For the Mage Towers with an open door, you will find the magic crest inside the tower. Even if you observe the front door blocked by a barrier without markings on it, try to walk through it.  Barriers without a crest on them are fake doors meant to trick you into searching for the crest outside the tower. Such towers are unlocked once you walk through the fake door.

For the other cases, there are several signs to look out for.

  • Extinguished Candle: Just as you enter the tower, turn to the left and look up at the candleholder. If it is extinguished, jump up to it and hit it to reveal the crest. Shooting the crest or jumping up at it will break it.
  • Illusory Wall: Once you enter the tower, there will be a table and a painting on the right side of the interior. Look to the left side of the table to see the statue of a hooded woman. If the statue isn’t present, shoot the plain wall shaped like a doorway. The wall will vanish, revealing the crest.

Closed Door Mage Towers

When the entrance to the Mage Tower is blocked by a barrier with a crest on it, you will need to find the unlocking crest around the tower. Here are all the recurring crest locations you can check:

  • Above the Entrance: Stand to the left or right of the tower’s doorway and jump up to reach the point just above its center. The crest will shatter upon contact and remove the barrier.
  • The Canvas: If you see what looks like a stone canvas holding a blank page open just in front of the steps, attack it to reveal the crest.
  • In the Water: Skirt around to the right side of the tower to find the crest in the pond adjacent to it.
  • The Shack: Circle around the left side of the tower to find a protruding stone shack attached to the back of the tower. Hit it to expose the crest.
  • The Rustling Trees: Directly to the tower’s left, there will be two small trees and some shrubs under them that seem to rustle much faster than the other foliage. Run over to them to find the crest at their base.
  • Dead Trees: Immediately to the left of the entrance staircase, you will spot three medium-sized, withered white trees. Attack them to open the crest.
  • Running Tree Trunk: Approach the partially cut tree trunk on the right side of the tower. It will run away when you get close. Attack it to reveal the crest and open the entrance.
