Everything you need to know about the Crater Shifting Earth event in Elden Ring Nightreign, and whether it’s worth it or not.

Shifting Earth events are easily the most fascinating aspect of Elden Ring Nightreign’s moment-to-moment gameplay. These are essentially this game’s version of “Legacy Dungeons,” and are the only areas that remain static across runs. From the map layout to the enemy placements, everything in the Shifting Earth events remains the same across runs, including the bosses. As such, it’s quite easy to memorize the layout of these areas and complete them on subsequent runs. However, the challenge of the Shifting Earth comes from the enemy types and bosses it inhabits. Furthermore, as an endgame location, these areas are home to some of the best resources.
One such Shifting Earth is the Crater, which is also the earliest event you will unlock in the game. However, is it an area that you should visit? Or is it better to simply avoid the Crater and clear out the rest of the map in Day 2? Let’s find out in this article.
How To Access the Crater In Elden Ring Nightreign?

Similar to other Shifting Earth events in Elden Ring Nightreign, the Crater can appear randomly on any of the runs. However, you do need to defeat Gladius, Beast of Night, to unlock the Crater in the first place. Additionally, you can use Everdark Sigils to force-spawn the Crater via the new merchant at the Roundtable Hold. However, to get the Everdark Sigils, you need to have defeated at least one of the new Everdark Nightlords. Once you spawn the Crater, you can find the location to the north of the central castle in Limveld. You can easily identify the Crater by the Volcano at the center of the map, which leads to a new region.
As is the case with other Shifting Earth events, the Crater is meant to be accessed on Day 2. However, there are ways to get to it on Day 1, using Ironeye and a specific Relic. The primary reason why you would want to visit the Crater on Day 1 is to get a guaranteed Legendary weapon. Unlike other Shifting Earth events, the Crater guarantees a Legendary if you reach the end of the trial.
However, instead of giving you a new weapon, the Crater essentially lets you upgrade one of your existing armaments (any rarity) to Legendary, for free.
Is the Crater Worth Visiting on Day 1?
Ideally, you want to tackle the Crater on Day 2. While it is possible to complete Shifting Earth locations on Day 1, it’s not recommended due to the higher level of enemies and bosses. Furthermore, to reach the end of the Crater and claim the Legendary upgrade, you need to defeat a Magma Wyrm, which is best fought at Level 10 or higher. However, with Ironeye and Character Skill reuse Relic, you can reach the Crater and even complete it on Day 1. Ironeye’s Marking Character Skill alone deals a ton of damage. Additionally, you can bring a Frost or Bleed Relic to make it easier to defeat the Magma Wyrm, even with Ironeye’s starting Bow.
