During a livestream on January 18, 2025, YouTube and Rumble streamer Herschel “DrDisespect’ Beahm called out Activision Blizzard. He said that “DEI Hires” were responsible for the poor state of Call of Duty (COD) and complained about the game’s developers.

The streamer has voiced his opinion on Call of Duty’s dipping player count repeatedly in his livestreams. Earlier this month, the streamer called out the Squid Game collaboration event and said he wanted the developers to focus on the core game.

DEI or “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” programs offer marginalized groups recognition. It originated with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the United States. The Act outlawed discrimination based on race, religion, sex, color, and national origin. In recent years, a subset of gamers and streamers have called out DEI practices for allegedly making video games worse.

DrDisrespect Shares His Thoughts On Activision’s Alleged “DEI Hires”

DrDisrespect brought up DEI in gaming and talked about how it is allegedly affecting Call of Duty. The streamer said:

“I feel like DEI should D-I-E. With how much influence has had at Activision and this franchise (COD), but I could probably tell you it’s pretty heavy. Like if it isn’t obvious, it’s obvious.”

He blamed Call of Duty developers and the public relations, marketing and communications teams at Activision. The streamer added:

“I think they hired individual DEI managers for the positions. Get the right talent in the positions. Get the right talent in the positions man. That’s all DEI is.”

He proceeded to call out the gaming industry and blamed DEI for its alleged shortcomings. The streamer then praised companies and developers that moved away from DEI and closed off his conversation saying that he didn’t want to get “too political” on his channel.

The Streamer Is Unhappy With Call of Duty

The YouTube and Rumble streamer has been unhappy with Call of Duty for over a year. DrDisrespect repeatedly called out Activision for not caring about “gaming culture”. During his January 7, 2025, livestream he said:

“The state of this industry, I don’t know where we’re at, man. It’s not what I grew up with. It was literally about playing the games and the fun aspect of interacting with games, but now people are getting hyped off high-production video pieces. We need to bring the culture of this industry back.”

Many internet users agreed with the streamer’s sentiments and said he was right. According to metrics website Steamcharts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 lost over half its Steam playerbase since its release in October 2024.

Some of the biggest COD content creators, like Nick “Nickmercs” Kolcheff and Timothy “Timthetatman” Betar, have moved on to other games. Popular pro players like Seth “Scump” Abner and Zack “Zlaner” Lane have also called out the developers for the state of the game.
