With new features constantly being introduced in Pokemon GO, it can be hard to keep track of what’s optional and what’s worth your time. If you are trying to make sense of the GO Pass and GO Pass Deluxe available this May, you are not alone. Here’s a clear comparison to help you understand both options without the confusion.

What Do You Get With the Standard GO Pass in Pokemon GO?

If you are someone who plays casually or prefers not to spend money, the regular GO Pass gives you access to a short-term event progression system at no cost. Available from May 6 to June 3, the GO Pass lets you collect GO Points by completing tasks. As your points grow, so does your rank. Each increase in rank leads to different types of rewards.

These include useful in-game items like Poke Balls, Stardust, Candy, XP, and encounters with featured Pokemon such as Yveltal. There’s a stretch at the end of May where the daily cap on GO Points is lifted, allowing you to advance more quickly.

It’s worth remembering that these rewards don’t sit in your inventory forever. You need to claim them by June 5. After that, they’re gone.

What Changes Come With the GO Pass Deluxe?

The Deluxe version takes the same base system and expands on it. It’s a paid option, and that means you will get access to both the regular and Deluxe rewards. There’s no need to pick between the two; everything stacks.

You will notice a faster climb in your progression because more incentives are placed throughout the ranking system. More items. More encounters. And a few rare additions, such as Premium Battle Passes, Lure Modules, and even Candy XL. It’s designed for Trainers who are already active and want more depth.

One item that stands out is the Lucky Trinket. It lets you force a Lucky Friend status with someone, even if you are not Best Friends yet. It’s a one-use item and comes with conditions. For example, you must already be Great Friends with the person you are targeting. And it won’t work if you are already Lucky Friends. If you don’t use it before June 8, it disappears from your bag.

Important Time Limits to Keep in Mind

Both versions of the GO Pass come with deadlines. Tasks need to be completed by June 3, and all rewards must be claimed by June 5. The Lucky Trinket, however, has an expiry date of June 8.

If you are unsure about whether to upgrade, you can start with the free version. The option to move to Deluxe remains open throughout the event. And when you do upgrade, the rewards from previous ranks in both tiers will still be available to collect.

A Few Regional Notes

This entire system is still in testing, and not all players worldwide can access it. So, if you don’t see it in your game, you are likely outside the current test regions. That also means some features or reward types may differ slightly based on your location. For example, some players might notice fewer ranks or different items at the same level.

GO Pass vs GO Pass Deluxe: Which One Fits Your Play Style?

If your play sessions are short or infrequent, the free GO Pass might be enough. It gives you goals to work on without any financial commitment. But if you are logging in daily and already completing similar tasks, the Deluxe Pass could offer more value in return for your time.

Neither path is wrong, but how much effort you plan to put in over the month makes all the difference.
