Following in the footsteps of the first title, Grounded 2 has opened its doors to players with early access, seeking to shape the final version of the game with their feedback. Obsidian Entertainment has released a list of planned updates and features for the game, with the timeline extending into 2026. Grounded 1 spent two years in early access, so it isn’t surprising that the stream of Grounded 2 early access updates will trickle well into 2026.

Fall Update

The first major update for Grounded 2 will arrive in Fall 2025, likely in September or October. It will introduce a new boss, crafting recipes, and QoL (Quality of Life) changes.

  • AXL: Park Boss is speculated to be a tarantula, and will be accompanied by the AXL’s Arena park area. New crafting recipes will be introduced to make use of the boss’s drops. These include AXL armor, weapons, and furniture.
  • Quality of life changes in the building grid.
  • Hotpouches on buggies to increase carrying potential.
  • Brazilian and Japanese in-game text.

Winter Update

The Winter Update is the most ambitious one in the content roadmap and will likely drop at the end of 2025 or early 2026. It promises exciting new additions to the game, including insect variants, an additional buggy, tier 3 equipment, base defense, and game features.

  • Grounded 2 will be Steam Deck and ROG Ally verified, supporting crossplay with handheld devices to improve ease of access.
  • The Lady Buggy addition will allow players to incubate ladybug eggs at the hatchery to unlock the new mount. Using the PEEP.R on a buggy will be possible, along with some unspecified QoL interactions.
  • New insects like the Cricket and Earwig will be introduced along with additional variants of most existing critters, bringing some biodiversity and a greater sense of danger to Brookhollow Park.
  • The Tier III equipment update promises more powerful sets of weapons and armor for the player.
  • New base furniture items will be introduced, with a Mushroom Set 2.0. Autonomously defending the base will be possible with new base defenses.
  • A new park area will be added to the map, but its name has been obscured to build suspense around it.

Summer Update (2026)

The Summer Update, or more appropriately, the Water Update, will bring an aquatic dimension to Grounded 2. The hefty update will add watery insects, bases, and a new park area.

  • The developers have hidden the new park area‘s name, but it will likely center on a body of water, such as a pond.
  • The game mechanics overhaul will feature Swimming 2.0, Smoothies 2.0, and Ziplines.
  • Watery creatures promise new aquatic insects and perhaps amphibians.
  • Watery bases will add base structures that will be buildable over water.
  • Unlocking the Watery Buggy will likely involve incubating eggs belonging to one of the watery insects for an aquatic mount.
  • Tier IV equipment adds stronger armor and weapons alongside Watery Equipment.

Future Plans (2026-)

With no dates specified, the developers of Grounded 2 have listed their intended additions to the game under “Future Plans.” Specifics will become available at a later date. These include:

  • Passive and Active Mutations 2.0.
  • Buggies, Buggy Mutations, Buggy Customization, Buggy Progression.
  • New Creatures, Park Bosses, and Colossi.
  • New equipment and archetypes.
  • New buildings and a base-moving mechanic.
  • In-game text for more languages.
