The premise of Grounded 2 is that you’re the size of a small insect, and in this state, everything poses a great danger to you. And survival isn’t a walk in the park (pun intended). However, even though you’re tiny now, you still need to eat and drink plenty of water to survive. You have to closely monitor your hunger and hydration bars to know when you need food or liquids.

If any of the bars deplete, you’ll get two critical minutes to eat or drink. Failure to do so will lead to your death due to starvation or dehydration. The following guide should help you manage your hunger and thirst in Grounded 2.

Let’s take a look at some of the steps you can take to avoid starving or dying from dehydration.

Managing Hunger

As we said, you have a hunger bar that continuously depletes when you explore or fight in Grounded 2. If you don’t replenish this bar regularly, you’ll starve to death. You can manage hunger in various ways, some of which are more effective than others. At the beginning of the game, you can consume the insect parts you collect after killing them. While they do satiate some of your hunger, it’s always better to cook the insect parts for greater effectiveness. However, cooking any food will require you to unlock the recipe for the Roasting Spit and craft it.

You can get the recipe by analyzing either Dry Grass Chunk or Sprig at the Resource Analyzer. After unlocking the Roasting Spit recipe this way, you can craft it by combining 3x Dry Grass Chunk, 4x Sprig, and 4x Pebblet. Now, you can begin cooking any of the raw foods you have. However, keep in mind that all food items have a shelf life, and they’ll spoil after some time if you don’t consume them.

Apart from cooking food at the Roasting Spit, you can also munch on mushrooms while exploring. You will also find Granola Bars inside many Ominent bases, which are items that can heal you and satiate your hunger when consumed.

Managing Thirst

Hunger isn’t the only thing that you need to worry about in Grounded 2. For your long-term survivability, water is equally important. You have a hydration bar that slowly depletes as time goes on. When it’s empty, you get a couple of minutes to hydrate, or you’ll die from dehydration. Early on in the game, you can get fresh water from leaves and grass in the form of dew. You can simply knock the droplet from these places by hitting it with a weapon. Sometimes, the droplet may fall on its own too. Early morning is the best time to have your fill of clean water through dew droplets.

Besides that, you can also drink dirty water if you’re in a pinch. However, we don’t recommend doing so. Dirty water can make you sick and increase the rate at which your hunger bar depletes. Another source of emergency hydration is drinking juice or soda from the empty containers you find near the trash. Again, these aren’t as good a source of hydration as clean water.

To manage your thirst effectively, we suggest unlocking the recipe of the canteen as early as possible. Once you craft the canteen, you can collect clean water in it and carry it around with you. Whenever your hydration levels drop dangerously low, you can always take a swig from it and replenish the bar.
