In order to roll in GTA 5, you need to aim your weapon first before pressing the jump button. This will make your character roll in the direction of your movement. How To Roll in GTA 5 for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can do a roll in GTA 5 for all platforms:

PC Windows

You need to aim your weapon first by holding the right mouse button (RMB). While holding the key, press the SPACEBAR to do a roll. You need to aim first, or you will simply jump in the direction you are moving. 

PlayStation

To do a roll in GTA 5 for the PlayStation, hold down the L2 button first. While holding it, press the square button. If you are not aiming with L2, while pressing the Square button, your character will jump instead of doing a roll. 

Xbox

For Xbox controllers, you can do a roll by holding down the left trigger (LT) button. While holding the button, press the X button, and your character should roll on the floor. As usual, if you don’t hold LT, your character will jump instead.

When You Should Roll in GTA 5?

You can roll using any weapon, even the heavier ones like the rocket launcher and a machine gun. However, don’t rely on the roll mechanic to dodge enemy fire. It is still best to seek shelter behind walls and take cover. The roll mechanic in GTA 5 is only meant for when you need to dodge at the last second. Additionally, there is a brief cooldown between rolls. This means you can’t continuously roll your way to a gunfight.
