Discover the most challenging careers in Umamusume Pretty Derby, demanding precise builds, strategy, and advanced race planning.

Career Mode in Umamusume Pretty Derby can vary greatly in difficulty depending on which character you choose to train. While some umas offer smooth progression through well-aligned race schedules and strong unique skills, others are far more demanding. These are the most challenging characters to train, with unpredictable race goals, unfavorable distance aptitudes, or playstyles that require precise stat builds and specific Support Card loadouts.
Umamusume Pretty Derby: 5 Hardest Characters to Beat Career Mode With
5) Rice Shower

A diminutive and woeful Pace Chaser, Rice Shower has a penchant for Medium and Long races. Although she has a decent stat bonus and unique skill for longer distances, what makes her career truly challenging for beginners is her preference for pace chasing.
New players often don’t realize the importance of Stamina and Power for Pace Chasers. They have the worst Stamina-to-health conversion ratio and often get surrounded near the final corner. This leads to frustrating moments as Rice Shower starts her last spurt too late due to low Stamina or gets boxed in due to low Power.
4) Matikanefukukitaru

Matikanefukukitaru’s career is similar to that of Rice Shower, with Medium and Long races. However, her unique skill, I See Victory in My Future, is far more unreliable. The skill activates when the way ahead is blocked late in the race, forcing her into a Late Surger playstyle. Even as a Late Surger, there is a decent chance that Matikanefukukitaru will not meet the conditions to activate her unique skill, leaving her disadvantaged in the last spurt.
3) Biwa Hayahide

Biwa Hayahide’s career starts off with Mile races, for which she has a “C” aptitude rank. Then, she takes on the Classic Triple Crown, facing tough competition from Winning Ticket. In the senior year, you have to take on a particularly powerful Narita Brian and ultimately place first at the Arima Kinen.
Hayahide prefers pace chasing and has several long-distance races in her career, but no bonus to Stamina or Power. Instead, you’ll have to work with a +10% Guts and +20% Wit training bonus. She does possess innate Pace Chaser and Long-distance skills, which make the career a little easier if you pick the right Support Cards.
2) King Halo

King Halo’s goal race schedule is just confusing and throws off beginners who haven’t checked all the upcoming races beforehand. She starts off with Mile and Medium but aims for a Long race in the Classic year and two Sprints in her senior year.
Although you don’t need to win the Long race, both Sprints require first place. Halo is ill-suited to these surprise Sprint races as she prefers the Late Surger strategy. Placing first in both events requires a precise distribution of stats and skills, with a healthy dose of luck.
1) Gold Ship

Gold Ship stands out from other characters in the roster for her eccentric personality as well as her preference for racing as an End Closer. While she has good stat bonuses with 20% Stamina and 10% Power, her unique skill is lackluster. Anchors Aweigh! activates mid-race, if at all, and provides a small boost to velocity for six seconds.
While the skill may assist in improving her position going into the final corner, it leaves her thoroughly underpowered during the last spurt. As an End Closer, Gold Ship frequently gets blocked heading into the final straight, with no amount of Power training able to prevent it.
