Slate magazine published an interview with Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker on February 18, 2025. Piker revealed in the interview that he considered quitting live-streaming in 2024 to pursue a Ph.D.

HasanAbi told the magazine that he wanted to stop worrying about people scrutinizing his political views or life. However, he decided against getting a Ph.D. and continued to stream. Hasan is one of the top political commentators on Twitch with over 2.8 million followers. He is one of the top five most-watched streamers on the platform.

Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt called HasanAbi the biggest political commentator on Twitch recently. Hasan does not consider himself to be the biggest political content creator on the platform. He thinks Asmongold should have the title because of Asmongold’s recent surge in political content.

Why Did Hasanabi Want To Quit Livestreaming?

HasanAbi stirred controversies when he took a pro-Palestine stance. The October 7, 2024, incident involving Hamas terrorists capturing Israeli civilians became a hot topic on Twitch among political content creators. Pro-Israel content creators started calling out Hasan for continuing to support Palestine. According to a recent Slate interview Hasan appeared in:

“Last year, Piker briefly considered quitting his streaming career. He thought about going back to school, earning a Ph.D., and never again worrying about the scrutiny on his life or his politics. Piker began to feel this way after Oct. 7, an event that forced him, and every other pundit, to witness every day the escalating horrors of the war between Israel and Hamas.”

Hasan’s political opinions also caused controversies with other content creators. H3 Podcast’s Ethan Klein and HasanAbi used to host podcasts together, but they split due to their political differences in 2023. They continue to feud with each other, with Klein recently making a “content nuke” about Hasan.

Ethan Klein Reacts to Hasan’s Recent Interview

After reading HasanAbi’s recent interview, Ethan Klein posted an Instagram story saying:

“Who the f*ck is this dipsh*t Luke Winkie supporting Hasan and calling him a LIBERAL in February of 2025? What the f*ck is happening!? “He’s hot.” Are you f**king serious?”

Ethan Klein is not the only person to call out Hasan’s political views. Congress member Ritchie Torres sent a congressional letter to Amazon and Twitch alleging that HasanAbi promotes antisemitism.

Torres also called Twitch an antisemitic platform and alleged that Twitch CEO Dan Clancy “amplified” antisemitism on his platform. He said:

“A Congressional letter has been sent to the leadership of both Amazon and Twitch to sound the alarm about the amplification of antisemitism on Twitch.   Hasan Piker, who has described Orthodox Jews as “inbred” and a Jewish man as a “bloodthirsty pig,” is the antisemitic voice of a systemically antisemitic platform led by Dan Clancy.  The time has come to hold Hasan Piker and Dan Clancy accountable.”

While Twitch issued an apology to the congressman and its audience, Hasan defended his stance, saying he did not condone antisemitism on his channel.
