Twitch streamer Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker appeared on an episode of the Trash Taste podcast on February 22, 2025. YouTubers Joey “TheAnimeMan”, Garnt “Gigguk”, and Connor “CDawgVA” host the Trash Taste podcast weekly to talk about anime, pop culture, and other topics.

In the latest episode, Hasan talked about anime and his livestreams in Japan. The episode received immediate backlash with negative comments and downvotes. Most of the comments criticized Hasan for his political views, and he alleged that someone was brigading against him.

Brigading in social media terms means directing a content creator’s audience to coordinate certain actions. It can involve commenting, mass-voting, or even harassing a target. Hasan asked his audience to brigade to counter the incoming negativity, which further fueled negativity around him. Internet users called him out for asking his audience to change people’s opinions about him.

The streamer thinks that the negativity is not driven organically. He alleged that a lot of “weirdos” are roaming around the web spreading negativity. HasanAbi said in a tweet that everyone can make up their minds about him by watching his livestreams instead of relying on other people’s opinions.

Why Did Hasanabi Receive Backlash Due to His Appearance on Trash Taste?

Most of the comments on the recent Trash Taste episode with HasanAbi target the streamer’s political views. He also platformed an alleged terrorist on his livestream in January 2024, which is also mentioned in the YouTube comments.

Hasan noticed the negative comments on YouTube and told his stream:

“The brigade is on folks. Get in and actively counter the brigade. ‘You really upset the weebs this time’, yeah.”

After Hasan told his audience to “counter the brigade,” many X users called him out for trying to sway opinions about him. He responded saying:

“i dont think its all organic trash taste fans tbh, i got lots of weirdos roaming the web recently, its okay to correct the record imo, they get away with saying a lot of totally ridiculous things. everyone is capable of making up their mind if they simply watch the stream.”

At the time of writing, the recent Trash Taste episode with HasanAbi has an estimated 14,000 likes and 12,000 dislikes with 247,000 views. For comparison, his first appearance on the podcast in April 2023 had 76,000 likes and 6,900 dislikes with over 2.4 million views.

A US Congress Member Accused Hasan of Antisemitism

Internet users and streamers are not the only ones who find HasanAbi’s political views controversial. In October 2024, United States Congress member Ritchie Torres accused Hasan and Twitch of promoting antisemitism.

Torres also sent a congressional letter to Twitch to highlight the issue. Torres called out Hasan’s alleged views on Orthodox Jews and said:

“A Congressional letter has been sent to the leadership of both Amazon and Twitch to sound the alarm about the amplification of antisemitism on Twitch. Hasan Piker, who has described Orthodox Jews as “inbred” and a Jewish man as a “bloodthirsty pig,” is the antisemitic voice of a systemically antisemitic platform led by Dan Clancy.  The time has come to hold Hasan Piker and Dan Clancy accountable.”

Hasan denied the antisemitism allegations on multiple occasions. He told his audience that his support for Palestinians in the Israel-Palestine conflict gets misconstrued as antisemitism towards people from Israel.
