Hell Is Us, the latest title from Quebec-based developer Rogue Nation, is just a few days away from its release date. Announced back in 2023 with a rather cryptic gameplay trailer, Hell Is Us is easily one of the most intriguing titles of 2025. Similar to games like Death Stranding or Silent Hill, Hell Is Us aims to deliver a psychological experience, albeit one that’s paired with a robust combat system, inspired by the souls-like genre.

The game was initially planned to be released in 2024, but was delayed to 2025 in order to deliver a polished product. And with the game’s launch looming ever closer, we finally have a definitive schedule for the game’s pre-load.

Here’s everything you need to know about the pre-load and file size of Hell Is Us.

Hell Is Us is currently available to pre-load on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. If you have the game pre-ordered on either of those systems, you can start pre-loading it. Pre-load is not live yet on PC. However, it’s expected to be available on August 31, 2025, close to the early access release date.

While not necessary, pre-downloading a game, especially on consoles, is a great option for players with slower or limited internet connections. Furthermore, pre-loading a game means you can start playing it as soon as it unlocks.

Outside of a few rare cases where you need to download a day-one update, most games that offer pre-loads are playable right when they are released. However, this is only for consoles. On PC (Steam), pre-downloads work slightly differently. Unlike on consoles, PC is an open platform.

As such, to mitigate the risk of game files getting leaked ahead of their scheduled release date, pre-loaded files are often encrypted. Once the game is officially released, said pre-loaded files then need to be decompressed, which takes time.

Ideally, decompression usually takes 5-10 minutes on a modern CPU and SSD. However, on slower systems, the same process can take up to an hour. As such, if you have a faster internet connection, it’s better to just download the game on the release date.

What Platforms Is Hell Is Us Coming To?

Similar to most releases nowadays, Hell Is Us is coming exclusively to current-gen systems, i.e., PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is scheduled to be released on September 4, 2025. However, if you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you can start playing it on September 1, 2025.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Hell Is Us takes up roughly 21 GB of SSD storage. On PC, however, the game takes roughly 25 GB of storage. Suffice it to say, Rogue Nation seems to have done an excellent job at optimizing the game files. Usually, semi-open-world UE5 games tend to take up 100 GB or more of storage space. Just look at Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater or Black Myth Wukong, for instance. However, that isn’t the case with Hell Is Us.

That said, it’s possible that future updates might end up increasing the game’s file size on all platforms.
