The combat in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is extremely fast-paced. It returns to the roots of the Yakuza’s beat ’em-up fights. You control the main character, Goro Majima, and fight against opponent crews and pirate lords.

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’s combat takes the game back to the original beat ’em up style of the Yakuza games. However, the combat seems to have gotten noticeably faster, and flashier, when compared to the previous games.

The first form of combat in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is with your ships. You are the captain of the Goromaru, and you can use this ship in battle against enemies. You can assign your crew to various strategic locations on the ship. Crewmates will have certain traits that help them perform better in certain roles, so assign them carefully. This will help the ship perform better in combat.

Additionally, you have several options you can fit into your ship to fight against your adversaries. These include cannons, flamethrowers, and even lasers. You can choose to sink the enemy ship from far away or get up close and personal to board them for a brawl.

You have two styles of combat for Majima to choose between. These are the Mad Dog and Sea Dog styles.

Majima is already known for his Mad Dog style of fighting. This aggressive fighting style lets him take on multiple groups of enemies and come out on top with ease. In this style, Majima gains a variety of moves to perform.

In Mad Dog style, Majima can uppercut his enemies and follow through with aerial combos. Alternatively, he can charge headfirst into groups, and start spinning with his signature knife, damaging everyone in his path.

Performing your moves in the Mad Dog style fills up your madness gauge. When this gauge is full, you can activate it to summon shadowy clones to aid you in battle. These clones significantly enhance Majima’s fighting capabilities.

Sea Dog

Sea Dog is the new fighting style that Majima has gained in the game. It involves him embracing his pirate side, and using a unique set of tools and combos to aid you in combat.

You can use your shortswords, pistols, and even a chain hook in this style. The shortswords can be tossed out for ranged attacks and the pistols can blow away groups of enemies. Lastly, the chain hook can drag enemies to your location, or vice versa. These options give you a lot of versatility in battle, so be sure to experiment and find your sweet combo.

Sea Dog gets a different madness gauge ability. Majima can bust out his dark instruments and summon creatures to aid him in battle. These creatures can be sharks, jellyfish, apes, and even giant parrots.

Changing up your battle style while in the middle of fighting will be necessary to achieve the best combos. On top of the options mentioned above, Majima can also freely wield random objects found across the battlefield as makeshift weapons. And lastly, you can equip Majima with sets of rings, which each give different bonuses for combat.

That was everything we know about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’s combat for now.
