Darren Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, is one of the most prominent content creators of 2024. The Just Chatting, gaming, and IRL content creator exclusively livestreams on YouTube. His popularity has skyrocketed this year following his recent Southeast Asia tour. Born on January 21, 2005, Speed is 19 years old. But, he has already established himself as one of the biggest names in the content creation industry.

IShowSpeed created his primary YouTube channel in March 2016, at the age of 11, and posted his first video on the Google-owned platform in December 2017, showcasing his NBA 2K18 skills. Eventually, in July 2021, the content creator collaborated with controversial Kick streamer Adin Ross for a one-on-one basketball match. This was one of Darren’s first videos that received more than five million views.
The same year (2021), he launched his online music career and took the internet by storm with the official music video for his single, Shake, which has now received over 215 million views.
IShowSpeed had one of his most successful years in 2023 when he collaborated with Twitch star Kai Cenat to launch The Kai N Speed Show, a Rumble-exclusive livestream. Furthermore, this was the year that the streamer finally met his idol, Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, in person after a year-long quest. He was also honored with the Variety Streamer of the Year title at YouTube’s annual award ceremony, the Streamy Awards.

2024 has also been a significant year for the American personality, as he amassed over 32.3 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel. He once again collaborated with Kai Cenat on several occasions, this time, to host several-day-long gaming marathons. Furthermore, during his IRL stream in Indonesia on September 18, 2024, IShowSpeed broke his all-time viewership record, with more than one million live concurrent viewers.
The content creator became emotional over the achievement and expressed gratitude to his followers, saying:
“One million live viewers, bro! Oh my f**king god, thank y’all so much. Oh my god, that’s really one million. One f**king million! Let’s f**king go! Let’s go Indonesia!”
Some Controversies Surrounding IShowSpeed
While IShowSpeed is the most popular YouTube streamer, he has been involved in some rather major controversies. One of his most contentious moments occurred in December 2021, when he appeared as a guest on Adin Ross’ e-dating show, alongside TikTok star Ashaley “Ash Kash.” At one point, IShowSpeed asked Ash Kash a “psychological question,” inquiring whether she would “reproduce” with him if they were the “last two” people on Earth.
After Ash Kash flatly denied, Darren stated:
“Who’s going to stop me? Who’s going to stop me?! If we the last two people on Earth, who’s going to stop me?! You’re not stopping me! If we’re the last two people on Earth, who’s going to stop me?”
This interaction resulted in IShowSpeed’s Twitch channel getting permanently banned. This suspension was eventually overturned in 2023.
In another incident, during a livestream on August 17, 2023, IShowSpeed inadvertently flashed his genitals in front of thousands of viewers while playing Five Nights at Freddy’s. The incident quickly went viral on social media platforms such as X, Reddit, and TikTok, with the hashtag “IShowMeat” trending all over.
