You will first meet Alpha Rockworm Valmo when visiting the Man Eater’s Grotto on a Bounty Quest. The Bounty in question is placed on the giant worm itself. His name might suggest that you can squish him using your strong foot, but you can’t be more wrong.

Alpha Valmo has a bounty on his head which you will uncover during your time in Martira after 07/05. Visit the Recruitment Center there and talk to the Recruiter Dispatcher. He will assign you the Man Eater in the Mine quest. And as you may have guessed, our big Rockworm friend is the main target. If you need some help navigating the cave, we have already created a walkthrough that can prove useful.

Be warned, you have to be at least Level 29 to even think about taking him down. By this time, you probably already have lots of experience in taking down creatures bigger than the Protagonist. But if you are here for the strategy and preparations, we will gladly help.

Bringing Down Alpha Rockworm Valmo

The Man-Eater Is a Formidable Boss

Many bosses in Metaphor ReFantazio are pure nightmare fuel in terms of model design. When it comes to their stats, they are usually pretty balanced out. This makes the fights seem fair and somewhat forgiving. Alpha Rockworm Valmo who hangs out in the Grotto, however, does not want to give up easily. He stands on business.

The only weakness that Valmo has is against Ice. It blocks Fire attacks, and to add to our misery, is also resistant to most physical damage such as Slash, Strike, and Pierce. It doesn’t have much of a reaction to other Elements and Status that you can particularly exploit. So, we only have the Ice attacks to make do with.

Assembling the Big Team

If you wish to win any fight in Metaphor, you have got to put together the right party. It doesn’t have to be the same combination every time at all. This is why the game is being appreciated by many players in the community. As for facing the Alpha Rockworm Valmo, you would want to be particularly precise while picking your Archetypes and Characters because of his many strengths and only one weakness.

For this battle, the Protagonist will play the role of a Mage. Strohl can be the Healer of the party. Hulkenberg will also contribute to dealing damage to the enemy directly and have the Mage Archetype. For secondary damage, Heismay can be the Thief with some of his precious skills.

Strategy to Defeat the Boss

For those who are prepared like this, Alpha Rockworm Valmo shouldn’t be much of a headache now. The two mages, Protagonist and Hulkenberg, can use the Gablizz Synthesis skill together to deal massive Ice damage to the worm. Using Mudoon and Almighty skills from Heismay will be useful in this case. Try not to inflict any other damage that Valmo can resist. Another good means of offense in this scenario will be packing some Ice items with you. Items like Ice Chunk, Demonic Ice Sickle, or Snow Queen’s Breath are consumables that inflict Ice Damage on the opponent.

As for the defense, your best mate is Strohl, who is playing Healer in the fight. Spells like Medi can help the party greatly whenever your opponent wishes to attack you. The Healer can’t directly cause a lot of damage, so his only role should be to be a supporting member of the team.

Rewards on Defeating Alpha Rockworm Valmo

Hopefully, with a combination of luck, preparation, and the right timing, you will be able to defeat the boss that we explored in the guide. It won’t be easy, but the quest completion reward will be worth the trouble. As for the fight itself, you will receive a rather generous prize:

  • EXP: 1000
  • A-EXP: 300
  • MAG: 640
  • Reeve: 540
