Everything you need to know about Markiona, Puppeteer of Death, in Lies of P Overture, her weaknesses, and how to easily defeat her.

Much like the base game of Lies of P, Overture is filled with some truly memorable and challenging boss encounters. Although the DLC is quite short compared to the base game, it doesn’t cheap out on the quality, especially when it comes to boss fights.
Among these bosses in Overture is Markiona, Puppeteer of Death. Markiona is essentially the first story-related boss in the DLC, who has a dedicated introductory cutscene (unlike the Tyrannical Predator). And much like any other main story boss in the game, Markiona is a significant jump in difficulty compared to the regular enemies in the DLC.
However, if you play your cards right, you can easily defeat the Puppeteer of Death in under a minute. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Markiona Puppeteer of Death, in Lies of P Overture.
Overview of Markiona Puppeteer of Death in Lies of P

Markiona Puppeteer of Death, is easily one of the toughest bosses in Overture, with difficulty that rivals that of Laxasia the Complete from the base game. Although Markiona does not use any elemental debuff akin to Laxasia (Shock), she deals a ton of physical damage with her attacks. However, the damage this boss dishes out is only part of the thing that makes her incredibly challenging. The real challenge of this particular boss fight comes from the fact that you have to constantly switch between two active targets, Markiona herself and her “puppet,” Queen’s Arche.
Both Markiona and Queen’s Arche have their separate health bars, and can attack you at the same time. Furthermore, if you defeat Queen’s Arche before finishing off Markiona, the boss will revive the puppet with full health. Surprisingly enough, although the boss fight sounds (and even looks) quite chaotic, it’s one of the best examples of a good “duo boss fight” in a souls-like game. Furthermore, there is a strategy that works quite consistently and can help you easily defeat Markiona (and her puppet) in no time.
Recommended Build Types and Weapons for Markiona Puppeteer of Death
Markiona, much like Laxasia, is an Alchemist, i.e., a human enemy type. As such, she’s incredibly weak to both Fire and Acid. In practice, Acid seems to be the best option against her, alongside a quality Advance build. The Acidic Crystal Spear or the Carcass Crystal Axe works wonders against this boss. Pair that with a proper Advance build, with a few points into Technique, and you can easily demolish Markiona. You can also use Fire weapons with an Advance build to easily defeat the boss. However, Acid is the best option and deals significantly more damage (over time) to the boss.
Tips To Easily Defeat Markiona Puppeteer of Death

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat Markiona Puppeteer of Death:
- For this boss fight, make sure you’re not summoning the Specter. You basically want Markiona to focus on you at all times, which makes the boss fight significantly easier to manage. While you can use the Specter to draw the boss’s aggro, it will make it difficult to keep track of her attacks. Additionally, Specter tends to die before the second phase anyway and is mostly useless against the DLC bosses.
- If you’re not using an Advance build, make sure to carry Acid Grindstones with you for this battle. We also recommend bringing the Perfection Grindstone, as it helps a lot during the second phase of the boss fight.
- Markiona usually has two major attack types. She either uses the Queen’s Arche to stagger you out of your combos or summons magical spheres if you get close to her. Staying at a distance is not recommended for this boss fight. Instead, you want to stay close to the boss, parry or block the sphere combos, and dish out damage via Acid weapons.
- Being a human, Markiona can be staggered out of her attacks. However, to do so, you need to use either your Fable Arts or charged attacks. If you’re staying close to the boss, make sure to dodge sideways and attack from behind as much as possible.
- Lastly, we recommend focusing your attacks primarily on Markiona. Do keep an eye on Queen’s Arche; however, you don’t need to lock onto her. Focus on depleting Markiona’s health bar as fast as possible, as killing her automatically kills her puppet.
