Learn how to defeat Gnoster, the Wisdom of Night, during the Sentient Pest Expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign with the help of this guide.

The Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, is one of the six Nightlords in the latest Elden Ring Nightreign. After you complete Tricephalos, you will confront this boss during the Sentient Pest Expedition on the third day in the game. This particular boss can prove to be quite tricky, since you will have to face two different entities during the confrontation. What makes it even more difficult is that one enemy will attack you from the air, while the other disrupts your progress on the ground. Gamers know that defeating one boss in a FromSoftware game is hard enough. So, two at once can prove to be a big challenge for newcomers and veterans alike.
To help you out, we have provided a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, in this article. From preparation to the boss’s moves and phases, we have covered every single detail. In addition to that, we will also recommend some specific Nightfarers that will give you an advantage in this fight. Still, you are free to use any class you wish.
Overview of Sentient Pest in Elden Ring Nightreign

As we briefly discussed, the Sentient Pest Expedition takes place during the third night in Elden Ring Nightreign. This boss consists of two different monsters or entities. One of them is a flying moth, and the other is a giant scorpion-looking beast. However, the two separate monsters will share the health bar. This design choice can be related to the co-op nature of the title. Since the two different bosses can easily occupy all three players’ focus. Additionally, you will get the Trace of Night after defeating it, which is required for the final expedition.
Now, this fight might seem daunting for players because of the presence of multiple enemies covering both air and ground. The Flying Moth will continue to attack you with poison mist and magic from the air, and the scorpion beast will keep the ground shaking with its wide-ranging slam attacks. Because of this, if you are playing solo, we highly recommend that you choose the Ironeye for this fight. Alternatively, if you are in a group, then try to form a party of a Recluse or multiple Ironeyes, alongside a Guardian or a Raider. Nightfarers with ranged attacks will be ideal for attacking the Moth in the air, while the tank of the group takes on the scorpion beast.
Weaknesses of Sentient Pest (Gnoster, Wisdom of Night)

Despite being a formidable boss, the Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, does have a weakness to fire. So, you should try your best to exploit this weakness and bombard the boss with various fire attacks. However, if you do not have a fire weapon on you, you can use the Tricephalos boss relic to imbue your starting weapon with fire. Furthermore, you can also increase your advantages by upgrading it with Smithing Stones. You can obtain them from the mines or any merchant.
Tips to Easily Defeat Sentient Pest (Gnoster, Wisdom of Night)

Take a look at the following tips to learn how to easily defeat the Sentient Pest (Gnoster, Wisdom of Night) in Elden Ring Nightreign:
- At the beginning of the fight, Gnoster will split into the Moth and the Scorpion Beast. So, divide your focus on both entities at once. Keep moving so the moth cannot land a hit on you with its six magic bolts. Stay on the side of the scorpion beast so you can dodge its attacks. Only retaliate when the enemy gives you a window to do so.
- As the Ironeye, be ready to use the Marking when the Scorpion attacks. It will help you slide under the enemy and attack it from behind. By doing this, you will also be able to use the Scorpion as a shield against the moth’s attacks. The moth won’t fire its six projectiles at once. Four of them come first, and then the last two after a little delay. Also, keep an eye out for the moth’s magic rain attack.
- After that, the moth will try to cover you with its purple poison mists from its wings. If you get hit, you will get infected with a worm on your head that will stagger and damage you. Your teammates can destroy the worm by attacking.
- Then, look out for the Scorpion’s roar. It deals damage to its surrounding area. But after it, the enemy will dig into the ground and burst out of it a bit later. Between that, you will get a perfect opportunity to focus all your attention on the moth.
- Once the boss is down to 60% health, the ground will be covered in moss, and the moth will disappear. Then, the moth will sit on the top of the scorpion beast and mix their attacks. This will work to your advantage, since now there is only one enemy to target.
- Then the Moth will attack you with a series of skybeams that will follow you. Simply run out of its way. The Scorpion will then jump towards a nightfarer while the moth sends projectiles to its sides. The targeted member should run away or use Marking to dodge. During this, the Ironeye with the fire weapon should stay far and keep attacking the boss.
- Once the attack is over, the boss will fall back to its attack pattern from phase 1. Now that you know all of the moves, simply keep dodging and attacking the boss until its health is completely depleted.
