With formidable enemies scattered across the map and brutal bosses waiting at the end of every chapter, Black Myth: Wukong makes it no secret that punishment is the name of the game. However, do not let this discourage you. There are several ways you can overcome the in-game onslaught. Black Myth: Wukong offers unlockable abilities, moves, and upgrades to players for this very purpose.

To unlock these upgrades and level up (both literally and figuratively), you require XP. And, you can acquire XP by defeating enemies and bosses. The tougher the enemy, the more XP you gain. The game thus incentivizes you to tackle even difficult enemies head-on.

How to acquire XP in Black Myth: Wukong

Should an enemy seem insurmountable, you can easily farm XP and return to face the challenge stronger. To farm XP, follow the steps below:

  • Defeat the enemies in any designated area of the game.
  • Visit a nearby Shrine and rest. This will respawn the enemies in the area, and you can kill them again for XP.
  • Rinse and repeat as required.

How to farm XP early

While you can farm XP in any area in Black Myth: Wukong, we recommend doing so at the Snake Trail in the Bamboo Groves. You will discover it halfway through Chapter 1. It is the first big XP farm location in the game.

Near the Snake Trail Shrine, you will find a few Snake-men who can all be killed in a little over a minute. Spawn at the Snake Trail shrine and walk towards the wooden bridge to find the first Snake Man. Then, go back to the bridge and vault over below to find the other three. Each enemy in this loop grants 175 XP, in addition to 170-175 Will, and Tiny Pieces of Gold.

We recommend returning to this area in the late game, too. Since you will have better fighting skills and leveled-up gear, there would be no stopping you.

Getting XP Through Optional Bosses

Staying true to the mantra of tougher enemies dropping greater XP, Black Myth: Wukong enables players to attain XP by fighting hidden optional bosses in each of the chapters. The Wandering Wight, found guarding the Guanyin Temple further in the Forest of Wolves in Chapter 1, is an optional boss that can be beaten for 1049 XP. However, this boss is a substantial challenge this early in the game.

Best Areas To Farm XP in Black Myth: Wukong

The best areas to farm Will and XP in Black Myth: Wukong are in Chapter 4 (The Webbed Hollow) and Chapter 6 (Mount Huaguo). In Chapter 4, once you reach the Pool of Shattered Jade, you can use the nest of cocoons to farm a ton of XP and armor upgrade material (Silk). To easily farm XP, simply use the Ashen Slumber Transformation Spell and perform the explosive finisher combo near the cocoon nest. This will immediately incenarate all the cocoons and grant you a ton of XP and Will in the process.

In Chapter 6, you can simply explore the area to hunto down the respawning Hippopotamuses. Killing these not only grants a ton of XP but there’s also a random chance that these enemies will drop Mind Cores.

The first AAA game from China to chart worldwide, Black Myth: Wukong has sold 10 million copies in just three days of release. This action RPG has been developed by GameScience, and it follows the Destined One on a memorable journey to uncover ancient relics.
