To get the Loong Scales, you must first go to the Valley of Despair Keeper’s Shrine in the Sandgate Village (Chapter 2). This Shrine is unlocked after you defeat the boss – King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince. From the Shrine, go to the south, i.e., towards the small cavern where you will find another boss – First Rat Prince.

Upon defeating the First Rat Prince, you will find a wall adorned with Buddhist scriptures and statues in the boss arena. You need to crack the wall. There are multiple ways to do that. You can bait the First Rat Prince to attack the wall, which induces the crack. Or, if you missed that opportunity, you can use the Spirit Transformation of the Wandering Wight to break the wall.

Once you get the wall cracked, you can interact with it to get to the other side. Inside the cracked wall, you will reach a small arena-like area with a treasure chest at the end of it. Interact with the treasure chest and you will obtain the Loong Scales.

Once you have the Loong Scales, head back to Black Myth Wukong’s Black Wind Mountain (Chapter 1) Forest of Wolves Outside the Forest Keeper’s Shrine. From there, simply proceed to the northwest direction, until you reach the waterfall. With the Loong Scales in your possession, you will be able to interact with the waterfall, which will open the path hidden behind it, leading to the secret boss fight.

Head inside the waterfall through the crack in the rock, and you will be transported to a completely separate part of the map, which houses the Red Loong. As soon as you step inside the area, a cutscene will ensue, which then leads to the boss fight against the lightning drake – the Red Loong.

How to beat the Red Loong in Black Myth Wukong

The Red Loong isn’t a particularly challenging boss, especially if you attempt it after completing the first few chapters of Black Myth Wukong. However, if you want to get done with the boss within the first couple of chapters, maybe even before you finish Chapter 2 (Yellow Wind Ridge), then you will have to know its weaknesses and things that you can exploit to get an upper hand against the boss.

Unlike most bosses in Black Myth Wukong, the Red Loong only has a single-phase boss fight, which makes it a bit more manageable. It does have a good variety of movesets, but none of it is particularly difficult to deal with. However, the damage this dragon deals with each of its regular attacks can be devastating, especially at lower levels.

We recommend tackling the boss after you hit Level 30, but it’s possible to defeat it even before that, granted you’ve mastered the Perfect Dodge timing. Here’s a recommended loadout that you can use to easily decimate the Red Loong in Black Myth Wukong:

Spells

  • Immobilize – Freezes enemies in place for a short duration (automatic unlock in Chapter 1 during the Bullguard boss fight)
  • Cloud Step – Grants temporary invincibility and a chance to deal a very damaging critical attack to enemies (automatic unlock in Chapter 1 after defeating the Black Wind King boss)

Transformation

  • Red Tides – Transforms the Destined One into Guangzhi, who can deal Burn damage to enemies with his light and heavy attacks (unlocked after defeating Guangzhi in Chapter 1)
  • Spirit Wandering Wight (Obtained by defeating the Wandering Wight mini-boss in Chapter 1 – Black Wind Mountain)

Weapon

  • Rat Sage Staff (craftable after defeating the final boss of Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Sage)

Armor

  • Bronze Set (craftable after reaching Chapter 2 – Yellow Wind Ridge)

Tips and tricks to defeat the Red Loong

Tips and tricks to defeat the Red Loong

The Red Loong will always start the battle with a jumping lunge attack. It’s a bit tricky to dodge, but if you press the dodge button right before you see the dragon coming towards you, it should trigger a Perfect Dodge. Although you won’t necessarily need it, Perfect Dodge coupled with the Cloud Step counterattack easily staggers the Red Loong, allowing you a good few seconds to dish out damage.

Additionally, if you’re not confident with your dodge timings in Black Myth Wukong, you can simply kite around the boss and only attack when you see an opening to do so. The best way to tackle the Red Loong is by using the varied combos which are unlocked via the Staff Stances talent trees. The best and easily the most effective combo is the double light attack, a short delay, and then a heavy attack.

You can chain this combo into another heavy attack if you have enough Focus points to do so. This one combo easily staggers the Red Loong, allowing you to dish out even more damage.

Lastly, make sure to target the Red Loong’s head or the containers on its back to maximize the damage output. The containers especially are a great way to deal a ton of damage in a very short amount of time. Breaking those containers is pretty easy with a varied combo, and doing so deals a ton of electric damage to the boss, while also knocking it off balance.

Best Strategies for Defeating Red Loong

Best Strategies for defeating Red Loong Black Myth Wukong

Below are the best Strategies for defeating Red Loong in Black Myth Wukong:

  • Overhead jump attack – The overhead jump attack is easy to dodge, but failing to do so will deal a ton of damage and also stagger you momentarily. The best way to avoid it is Perfect Dodge or sprinting away from the boss.
  • Claw swipe combo – The claw swipe combo starts with a 3-hit attack which the Red Loong then ends with a massive ground slam that deals lightning damage. Perfect Dodge or using Cloud Step is the best way to counter this attack.
  • Ground pound – This attack is usually part of the claw swipe combo; however, there are also rare instances when the Red Loong can just use the ground pound after a jump attack. The best way to avoid this attack is to sprint away from it or use Perfect Dodge. Cloud Step also helps
  • Tail whip – The tail whip attack doesn’t do a lot of damage, but it does inflict lightning status, which can limit your Qi recovery as well as agility. The best way to avoid this attack is to dodge away from the boss or use the Pillar Stance.
  • Lightning discharge – The lightning discharge is an AOE (area-of-effect) attack that can easily envelop you with lightning damage. Pillar Stance offers the best protection against this attack since it’s entirely ground-based. Additionally, you can simply use Cloud Step to avoid getting hit, at the cost of some Mana.

Lastly, make sure to use Immobilize Spell periodically, to further extend your varied combos. The best time to use Immobilize is when you’re at the tail-end of a combo and have the Focus gauge fully charged. That way after a combo finisher, you can use the charged-heavy attack to deal a ton of additional damage.
