Find out all about finding and fighting the Horseman in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, including their real identity.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows sees the two protagonists take on and systematically bring down the 12 members of a mysterious group known as the Shinbakufu. While you have some choice over who dies when, you only reach the masked leader of the group, dubbed the Horseman, at the very end. For most of the game, you don’t even get to know his true identity.
In this guide, we’ll explain how you can find and kill the Horseman in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How To Find The Horseman in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Initially, Akechi Mitsuhide implies that the leader of the shadow group, the Shinbakufu, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. And Naoe pursues Nobunaga to bring the reign of the group to an end. However, after she manages to take down the Daimyo, she discovers that Mitsuhide had lied to her all along. A fight ensues between the protagonist of the game and Mitsuhide.
Once you defeat her, she’ll finally reveal the real identity of the Horseman. He is a man by the name of Ashikaga Yoshiake. He is a former Shogun who was ousted by none other than Nobunaga himself. You can find Yoshiake at the Kuramadera Temple in the northwestern part of the Genbo Highlands. Thankfully, there is a fast travel point right next to the objective marker, allowing for quicker traversal to the area if you’ve unlocked it before.
As soon as you reach the location, a cutscene will play. Both protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, will approach Yoshiake. The leader of the Shinabuku will convince you to spare him, returning the Regalia that the group stole from Naoe and Nagato. He also promises important information to the duo should he be spared.

How To Defeat The Horseman in Assassin’s Creed?

The game doesn’t let you fight the Horseman. Instead, you only get the cutscene with him that reveals important information regarding some characters and the world. However, at the end of the cutscene, both protagonists walk away without ending the life of Ashikaga Yoshiake. You don’t have a say in this decision. The quest will mark the end of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, although quite a bit of content is present in the game’s epilogue.
