However, almost nobody imagined that Bungie would secretly include the quest in the second week of the Heresy Season. So, if you haven’t found the mission yet, don’t be too hard on yourself. In this guide, we’ll provide a breakdown on the latest exotic mission because completing it leads to a shiny new primary, the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2.
Steps To Get the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2
Here are some of the things you have to do to get your hands on the shiny new SMG.
- Uncover ‘The Taken Path’ quest during The Nether activity
- Find all of the secrets across the solar system
- Complete the ‘Derealize’ mission
Let’s take a look at how you can approach each of the phases that we outlined above.
Uncover ‘The Taken Path’ Quest During the Nether Activity
When you spawn inside the dreadnought during the Nether activity, look around for a weird-looking blight. This blight will spawn somewhere in the starting area of the dreadnought, which is usually one of three regions. With no warnings or other heads-up from developers, it is very easy to miss out on the exotic quest here if you don’t know what to look for.
While the location of this particular blight is random, we suggest going to the Hall of Souls to find it easily. Look up, and you should see a black portal thingy floating above you. Climb up the platforms, and the portal will suck you in when you get close enough.
Once inside, you’ll come face to face with a barrier. Stand on the directional plate right in front of the barrier, facing the barrier. As you stand there for a while, you’ll hear “something whispers to the right.” Right then, fire at the rune on the barrier and step towards your right. Doing this will transport you to the other side of the barrier. Here, you’ll find a Taken Osseous Fragment that you need to take with you.
Return to Eris’s Flat and interact with the slab. This will finally unlock the Taken Path quest, putting you one step closer to finding the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2.

Find All of the Secrets Across the Solar System
This part of the quest involves the following activities:
- Go to K1 Revelations Lost Sector and find a blight similar to the one in the Nether. Inside, you’ll find a similar directional plate puzzle that you need to solve to cross the barrier. Kill the Taken in the room and collect The Taken Osseous Fragment there.
- Go to the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector and repeat this same process. Collect The Taken Osseous Fragment from this area too.
Once you have both of the fragments, go back to the slab in Eris’s Flat. It will trigger three curse quests, namely, the Curse of Urgency, the Curse of Endurance, and the Curse of Revenge. You can find the curses in the following activities:
- Curse of Urgency is in the Hallowed Grove
- Curse of Endurance is in the Altars of Sorrow
- Curse of Revenge is in the Nightmare Hunt: Pride
In each of these, you will find a Taken Relic. You have to take on waves of enemies until you get a text notification saying the artifact “grows heavy with power.” As soon as this happens, run back to where the relic is and destroy it.
Make sure you know how to heal in The Nether before proceeding further.
The final phase before you can unlock the Derealize quest for the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2 involves heading back to the Nether. You need to find three hive statues there and interact with them. Each time, you’ll need to battle mini bosses and then collect the Taken Osseous Fragments. When all three are done, the Derealize mission will be triggered.
Complete the ‘Derealize’ Mission
The mission is not that tricky to complete. You will have to take on Dread Faction and Tormentor enemies throughout, along with a mini boss battle. All of it will finally come down to defeating the actual boss of the quest. There is considerable lore within the mission, and if you love that stuff, make sure to pay attention to what’s happening throughout.
Completing the mission the first time will guarantee the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG drop. You can attempt the mission multiple times afterward to receive intrinsic upgrades for the unlocked primary SMG.
