Hornet has an arsenal of techniques in Hollow Knight Silksong, and one of them is the Charged Attack. Here’s how you can learn it.

The Charged Attack (Needle Strike) in Hollow Knight can be obtained at the left end of Act 1’s map in the Blasted Steps. You get this ability from the Pinstress, the sister of the Seamstress (Drifter’s Cloak). The Blasted Steps must be navigated with the Drifter’s Cloak, as the updrafts help you reach the top. The Charged Attack can be used with precise timing while bosses are stunned, dealing a lot of damage. Here’s how you can get the Charged Attack in the game.
Reaching the Needle Strike Location in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Needle Strike can be learned from the Pinstress’ home at the end of the Blasted Steps. This requires you to obtain the Ancestral Cling Grip in Shellwood before traversing to the Blasted Steps. You can reach this location fastest by unlocking the Bell Station at the Blasted Steps to the left of Greymoor. Then, you have to pogo your way upward using the balloons spread around the area. The Pinstress is located on the middle-left side of the Blasted Steps and can be accessed as soon as you reach it.
The Charged Attack has no requirements to fulfil in Hollow Knight Silksong. Simply interacting with the Pinstress inside her hut will teach you the Needle Strike. But before reaching her, you will encounter the Great Conchflies boss fight. The boss fight will only end once you defeat one of the Conchflies, while the other will fly away, later to be seen again. The boss fight will have you dodging both Conchflies as they throw projectiles and drill toward you. The fight has two phases, with the bosses pulling out a few new moves in the second.
After defeating the bosses, you will unlock the left end of the Blasted Steps. If you walk to the edge, Hornet will simply go back and stop you from proceeding further, but right on top is the Pinstress’ hut.
Who Is the Pinstress?
The Pinstress is revealed to be the Seamstress’ elder sister, whom she calls a fierce warrior, unlike herself. For now, this is all she teaches you, but her Needle Strike deals almost double the damage if hit. This charged attack is especially useful while bosses are stunned. This attack pairs well with the Reaper Crest, where you gain a buff after healing.
Every attack you land will make the enemy throw out small balls of silk that you can collect. A charged attack spills extra silk from enemies. Longer boss fights will be less of a challenge with the Needle Strike, as the amount of silk gained is higher. However, timing it is crucial; otherwise, it becomes a free window for enemies to hit you.
