How to Get Staff of Spellpower in Baldur’s Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Staff of Spellpower is a great quarterstaff you can acquire in Act 3 – this short Guide Explains everything you need to know about the Staff of Spellpower in BG3.

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Staff of Spellpower is a Quarterstaff which is one of multiple pieces of loot you can find in the House of Hope. Significantly, it has the one of the same bonus features as the Legendary Markoheshkir staff: Arcane Battery, which lets you cast your next spell without using a spell slot. This is highly valuable, especially as it can allow your character to cast more than one Level 6 spell!

The Markoheshkir staff is ultimately the better one to get and equip to your main spellcasting character. But if you haven’t acquired it yet, or if you have two spellcasters in your party, then the Staff of Spellpower is a great second option!

  • Damage: 1d8 (1d6)+2 Bludgeoning
  • Requirements: Simple Weapons or Quarterstaves Proficiency
  • Rarity: Very Rare
  • Location: Found in a locked room at the House of Hope
  • Weight: 1.8 kg
  • Value: 480
  • Bonuses:
    • Arcane Enchantment: You gain a +1 bonus to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls.
    • Arcane Battery: Alleviate the arcane burden of spellcasting with the power of this staff. The next spell you cast doesn’t cost a spell slot.
  • Classes with Simple Weapons or Quarterstaves Proficiency: All classes
  • Companions Who Can Use This Weapon: Gale, Halsin, Jaheira

How to the Staff of Spellpower in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Staff of Spellpower can be found in the same location as the Helldusk Helmet. When you first arrive at the House of Hope a corridor will lead you directly to a familiar ‘feast’ laden table. The entrance to the room with the Staff of Spellpower will be directly on the opposite side of the wall with the fireplace. There is no shortcut to this, you’ll need to go either right or left and walk around to the other side.

You’ll need to pass a Perception Check before you can interact with this Gem. There will be two checks – the first is a Wisdom 10 difficulty class check. The second is a much harder Arcana/Intelligence check with a 20 DC. Surprisingly, there is not a need to ‘save scum’ these checks. If you fail, the gem will knock you back, but no alarm is sounded and no physical harm comes to your party.

When you get inside, you’ll find the Staff of Spellpower on the pedestal to the right. Be sure to check the treasure pile to take the Helldusk Helmet and over on top of another pedestal on the other side of the room you’ll find Mol’s contract.
