In Baldur’s Gate 3, to find House of Hope, you must go to Devil’s Fee, speak with Helsik, solve the ritual puzzle, and enter the portal.
The House of Hope is an important part of Baldur’s Gate 3’s main story and Raphael’s personal residence located in Avernus. It’s also the location where the cambion keeps the Orphic Hammer alongside other precious gear, consumables, and items. This location is a “must-visit at least once” for every BG3 player, as it undoubtedly adds value to the story and game’s experience. However, the House of Hope can’t be found on the city map, making the location extremely hard to find. Therefore, this guide will provide step-by-step instructions on how to solve the ritual puzzle and enter it through the portal.
Where is the House of Hope (Devil’s Fee) in Baldur’s Gate?
The House of Hope is located in the realm of Avernus, which you can only reach by using a ritual circle to create a portal into the Nine Hells. The ritual circle to is found in the Devil’s Fee shop, which is located in the northern portion of the Lower City map in Act 3. To get there, head northwest from the Basilisk Gate waypoint, where you enter the city for the first time. Alternatively, if you have already discovered the Lower City Central Wall’s waypoint, you can teleport there and go straight north to find the Devil’s Fee.
Inside the Devil’s Fee, Helsik appears to run an ordinary shop. However, if you look around at the items for sale party members may comment with hints to her occupation as a diabolist. Furthermore, if you reach the top level, you will find arcane symbols written with blood and many unsettling objects.
How to Enter the House of Hope in BG3
First, speak with Helsik, and depending on your choices and journal, you may have a dialogue option available asking her about the House of Hope. However, if you don’t see this option, head upstairs. On top of the stairs is a hidden trap, so you must place water or wine on it to disarm it. If you don’t do it, it’ll hit you with a fireball, dealing significant damage each time you touch the top of the stairs.
In the room upstairs, find the book about the “Infernal Transposition Ritual” on the desk and read it. Then, come back to her, and the option to ask about House of Hope should now be available. She will explain the ritual and how to open the portal to the House of Hope under a condition.
To open the portal to the House of Hope you must choose one of the following options:
- Pay Helsik 20,000 gold (10,000 gold if you pass a persuasion check)
- Agree to bring back the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength from the House
- Pickpocket the bag and note from Helsik
The gold price is expensive, and the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength are a great gear piece to use. Therefore, we recommend that you pickpocket her bag of ritual items and a note on how to perform the ritual. Moreover, if you steal the items and you return, Helsik will still be willing to trade with you. However, she will acknowledge that you stole those items from her.
If you are not successful stealing the items from her, you can agree to steal the Gauntlets without too much penalty. Return the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength to her and she will add them to her stock for 1620 gold. Consequently, you can buy them from her later for a much lower price.
How to Solve Ritual Circle Puzzle in the Devil’s Fee
On the top floor, you will find a ritual circle painted in blood. To open the portal to the House of Hope, you must place items from the small bag in the correct spots on the ritual circle. Put the Infernal Marble in the center of the Star.
Next, it doesn’t matter what order you place them on the floor. However, for simplicity, let’s start with the star point, which looks like a triangle pointing to the desk, and go clockwise (Check the image below for reference).
- Infernal Marble: In the center
- Skull: Place it on the star point, looking like a triangle pointing directly to the desk
- Coin of Mammon: Put in on the next star point
- Skip next spot
- Diamond: Place it on the third spot
- Incense: Put it on the following star point, next to the door to the balcony.
- The last two spots should be empty.
If you placed the items correctly, the black portal in the center should appear, and you can now enter the House of Hope.
