STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the upcoming open-world survival game from GSC Game World, is just a few days away from release. Following a tumultuous development cycle, STALKER 2 is finally coming out on November 20, 2024. While the original STALKER game (STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl) was a PC-exclusive title at launch, the upcoming sequel is coming to consoles as well. However, there’s a catch. STALKER 2 is releasing as a “console exclusive” on Xbox Series X|S, alongside the PC version. Furthermore, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass (for PC and consoles) from day one, with the option to pre-load for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

What Is the STALKER 2 File Size
According to STALKER 2’s PC system requirements, the game will take up to 150 GB of storage on your device’s SSD. However, the download size for the game is 146.5 GB. Given the open-world structure of STALKER 2, coupled with it being built using Unreal Engine 5, the 100+ GB file size isn’t particularly surprising. It should be noted that the game is technically playable from an HDD.
However, developer GSC Game World highly recommends installing STALKER 2 on an SSD to minimize potential performance-related issues. The 146.5 GB download also includes all the Deluxe and Ultimate Edition add-ons as well.
How To Pre-Load STALKER 2
STALKER 2 is currently available to pre-load on Xbox Series X|S. For PC users, the pre-load is yet to go live. On Steam, pre-loads usually go live roughly 24 hours prior to a game’s release. As such, players can expect STALKER 2’s PC version to be available for pre-load on November 19, 2024. That being said, here’s how you can pre-load STALKER 2 on Xbox Series X|S and PC:
Xbox Series X|S
- On your Xbox Series X|S, head to your Xbox Library via the dashboard.
- Search for STALKER 2 from the list of titles and press Pre-download.
- Once the pre-load is complete, wait for the midnight release to start playing.
Windows PC (Steam)
- Open your Steam account.
- Head to the Steam library.
- Search for the game in the library.
- Click on Pre-load.
- Once the download concludes, wait until the game’s release date for it to be playable on your PC.
