Everything you need to know about the Everdark Sovereign in Elden Ring Nightreign, including details on Enhanced Gaping Jaw, and more.

The Everdark Sovereign in Elden Ring Nightreign is perhaps the most challenging Expedition in the entire game (as of yet). As promised by FromSoftware, the game’s first major title update introduced the Everdark Sovereign, which is essentially a special Expedition that concludes with a battle against the Gaping Jaw (Adel, Baron of Night).
However, it’s not any ordinary Gaping Jaw. Unlike the regular Gaping Jaw Expedition, Everdark Sovereign features an empowered variant of the Nightlord. Not only is the empowered Gaping Jaw more resilient to damage, it also has access to new and significantly more challenging movesets, and an entirely new third phase.
However, before you can even take on the empowered Gaping Jaw, you first need to access the Everdark Sovereign. Here’s everything you need to know about the Everdark Sovereign Expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign and how to start it.
What Is the Everdark Sovereign Expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Everdark Sovereign is essentially a temporary Expedition that features the Empowered Gaping Jaw. These Expeditions will be cycled every other week, with a new empowered Nightlord. These Expeditions feature the same layout as others, with a few key differences. Firstly, in most instances, the Everdark Sovereign will always have a guaranteed Shifting Earth active.
Furthermore, Everdark Sovereign also seems to reward you with more Runes compared to the regular Expeditions. However, the Rune acquisition does depend on the enemies and camps you choose to tackle. Think of Everdark Sovereign and the empowered Nightlords as the Arch-Tempered Monster events in Monster Hunter games.
How To Start Everdark Sovereign?

To start the Everdark Sovereign, you first need to have completed the regular variant of the same Expedition at least once. For instance, in the case of the current Everdark Sovereign, you need to have defeated Adel, Baron of Night (Gaping Jaw). Once you have done that, you will find the Everdark Sovereign Expedition at the end of the Expeditions list.
While it is possible to tackle the Everdark Sovereign pretty early in the game, we don’t recommend doing so. The Empowered Gaping Jaw is significantly more powerful than any other boss in the game. As such, to even stand a chance at victory against the boss, you will need a proper Relic loadout.
We recommend tackling the boss with characters like Raider, Wylder, Ironeye, or Recluse. Guardian also seems to be quite effective against Adel. However, during co-op, Guardian’s low DPS output is a major hindrance. Other than that, make sure to carry the Relic from the Sentient Pest to get Poison on your starting armament. Poison debuffs Adel, making the boss fight much more manageable.
Additional Notes
Completing the Everdark Sovereign grants you a unique currency – Sovereign Sigils. You can use these Sigils to buy cosmetics as well as new and more powerful Relics at the Roundtable Hold.
