What Is a Zaith’isk Chair, and What Does It Do?
The Zaith’isk Chair in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a unique Githyanki device in the Crèche Y’llek. It is designed to remove tadpole specimens from the heads of the infected, or so La’ezel and all Githyanki believe. However, when you use it on your character, with their unusual condition, you can earn a special permanent bonus called Awakened Illithid Powers.
Awakened Permanent Bonus: You can use all of your Illithid Powers as a Bonus Action. Your resistance to the Zaith’isk in the Githyanki infirmary awakened this power.
Understanding the Awakened Illithid Powers bonus: The bonus allows the player to cast the Illithid abilities as a bonus action instead of an action. It opens up more combat strategies and will undoubtedly make your character more powerful if you plan to use and invest points into this special skill tree.

Where to Find the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Zaith’isk is located within the Mountain Pass area in the Rosymorn Monastery (X: 60; Y: 20). The Mountain Pass serves as a transition area between Acts 1 and 2.
Those who choose to travel to Shadow Cursed lands via the Underdark, ensure you first head to the far northwest corner of Act 1 Area, where you can get another fantastic early-game legendary weapon, Silver Sword of the Astral Plane, and then enter Mountain Pass by passing the stone bridge where the Awakened Bonus and Blood of Lathander awaits.
The Rosymorn Monastery is located on the far north side of the map, and there are two entrances to the monastery (check the picture above for reference.) You can climb the rocky shelf just above the fast travel portal and eliminate the wooden barricade obstructing your path (X: 33; Y: 20). Be aware the fight will start as soon as you jump inside. Alternatively, you can choose to climb the vines (X: 66; Y: 22) at the main entrance courtyard in the central entrance courtyard.
Find the Githyannki and Creche Y’llek
After you’ve explored the area and are prepared to enter Creche Y’llek, you can leap down (X: 109; Y: 22) from the damaged stairs on the east side of the Monastery. Below, you’ll discover another set of stairs leading to a new location and the Creche. This area is home to NPCs, valuable loot, merchants, and potential side quests. Regardless of your choices, your next objective is to proceed to the Ghustil Stornugoss Chambers, a part of the Lae’zel, and the Find Cure quests lines.
Upon arrival, you will be questioned by Githyanki guards about your purpose in Creche. You can pass a charisma check, or if you have La’ezel with you, let her handle the situation peacefully. Then head to the southeast chamber behind the infirmary to find the Zaith’isk chair and get the Awakened Illithid Powers Bonus in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How To Get Awakened Illithid Powers (Bonus Action)
In Short, to earn the Awakened Illithid Powers (Bonus Action) bonus from Zaith’isk Chair, you must follow the following steps:
- Travel to the Mountain Pass Area to the Creche Y’llek.
- Head to the room behind the Infirmary where Ghustil Stornugoss and Zaith’isk Chair are located
- Save the Game so you can load the save (Not available for Honour Mode difficulty)
- Sit on a chair; do not let La’ezel take the lead during the conversation if you want the bonus for your main character.
- Pass Intelligence Saving Throw 12 DC
- Pass Wisdom Saving Throw 15 DC
- Pass Charisma or Constitution Saving Throw 18 DC or Intelligence Saving Throw 18 DC
- The Dream visitor will intervene, destroying the Zaith’isk Chair.
- Congratulations, you received the Awakened bonus.

Who should sit in the Zaithisk Chair in Baldur’s Gate 3?

During the cut scene Lae’zel will be adamant about going through the process first, and you will have to refuse her. Doing so will earn her disapproval, but if you’re consuming the tadpoles then this is far to important a bonus to miss out on.
Therefore, do not let La’ezel take the lead during the conversation. However, if you don’t plan to learn Illithid Powers, then choosing who will sit on a chair doesn’t matter. Letting La’ezel explain the situation and sit on the chair will earn you some approval from her.
The Best Trick to Get the Awakened Bonus
Gaining the bonus requires passing three skill checks: Intelligence, Wisdom, and Constitution. Those can be hard to pass, especially on Honur difficulty, where you are forbidden from reloading the save and trying again. So if you play on the highest difficulty or don’t want to reload the save endlessly to get the bonus, you can respec your characters just before interacting with the chair and create the powerful, perfect build that will let you pass all checks easily. You can safely return to your previous build without losing any permanent bonuses, including the Awakened Illithid Powers buff.
Best Tricks Class: We found out after testing that the best build and class for getting this bonus easily is Bard. Bards are known for their ability to receive more skill proficiencies than any other class. As a result, Bard with the College of Valour subclass is what you want to take.
Best Character Build and Tricks All Steps
Just before you approach the Githyanki scientist and the Zaith’isk Chair, travel to the camp and respec your character to Bard. Take the following skills:
- Pick Bard, class.
- Put 16 points into the intelligence and Wisdom ability scores.
- Select the College of Valour Subclass
- Learn Guidance Cantrip or have another companion with it (For Example, Shadowheart, Druid, or Cleric).
- At levels 4 and 8 (if reached), select Intelligence Ability Improvement Feats.
- Each time, you will choose new skills and the Perception and Arcana skills to maximize your bonus.
- Choose the Disguise Self and Seeming group Spells if you own the Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring to increase your chances.
