Intel at Computex 2025 showed an AI assistant powered by an NPU to help gamers. Check out how it works here!
Intel is releasing an AI-powered gaming assistant soon, known as the AI Gaming Coach. Let’s explore all the details around it, as well as what is powering the new artificial intelligence-powered technology.
The company released new Core Ultra processors over the last few years, powered by Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake, depending on the generation. One of the major innovations with this new processor architecture was the Neural Processing Unit, also known as the NPU.
Intel has had many NPU features for a while now, including AI-based plugins in Audacity, OpenVINO for AI inference acceleration, and more. Now, they are also introducing a brand-new feature to make gaming experiences even better.
Intel Revealed AI Gaming Coach at Computex 2025; Tech Is in Active Development
Recently, Computex 2025 was held in Taipei, and Intel showed off its new NPU-powered AI Gaming Coach, which is actively in development. The demo, which you can watch here, shows the AI assistant working live in the highly popular AAA game Black Myth Wukong. Game developers will have to specifically integrate the Intel AI Gaming Coach within their games, so we’ll have to wait and see how deeply the tech becomes integrated into modern titles.
The experience, as shown during the event, definitely seems to be quite helpful. While gaming, the Intel AI Gaming Coach gives various tips to players depending on the context. For example, while you’re exploring, you can get hints to look for loot nearby, such as chests and other goodies. The AI assistant can even give tips on how to beat various enemy types and help you if you’re struggling to beat a boss fight.
How Does Intel AI Gaming Coach Work?
Intel’s AI Gaming Coach relies on the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and integrated graphics card (iGPU) to function. These are separate components on the chip that exist on the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. During the demo, it was visible in the task manager that the NPU was being heavily utilized. It’s great to see processors evolving beyond what they were capable of a decade ago.
Intel’s chips are getting more advanced, and this feature, along with other benefits of having an NPU, is a testament to the company’s innovation. By the way, Nvidia also recently introduced Project G-Assist as an AI assistant for gamers.
Will the Intel AI Gaming Coach cause any performance loss when users activate it in games? Actually, since the NPU and iGPU are separate components from the CPU and GPU, using the AI Gaming Coach will not impact performance in any drastic manner. Do note that Intel hasn’t yet confirmed the minimum requirements to run this feature. A release date is also unavailable for now, but it will probably come out soon.
