Learn whether Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Founders Edition is worth buying, or if it’s best to stick with the Standard Edition.
The latest title in the iconic Sid Meier’s Civilization series, Civilization 7, is roughly a month away from release. The Civilization games have always been the go-to for real-time strategy fans. While the latest entry in the franchise more or less offers the same experience as its predecessors, it does so while also refining the core aspects of the series. With Civilization 7, developer Firaxis Games aims to go back to the roots, delivering a more grounded strategy game after their last title, Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
Civilization 7, much like the past few Firaxis Games offerings, is a cross-gen title. However, despite its cross-gen nature, the game does boast vastly improved visuals compared to its predecessors.
With the game finally available for pre-order on all storefronts, strategy game fans might be thinking of grabbing the game ahead of its release. However, as is the case with most Triple-A titles nowadays, deciding between the various editions and bonuses can get extremely confusing.
Before you pre-order the game here’s everything you need to know about Sid Meier’s Civilization 7’s different editions and whether the most expensive Founders Edition is worth buying or not.

Different Editions of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Explained
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is offered in three different editions – Standard, Deluxe, and Founders. The Standard Edition comes with just the base game and the pre-order bonus (if you purchase the game ahead of its release). The Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, features a few extras over the Standard Edition content. The Deluxe Edition extras include the Crossroads of the World collection and the Deluxe Content pack.
Furthermore, the Deluxe Edition also comes with a 5-day early access bonus, granted you pre-order the game. The Founders Edition, which is the most expensive version of the game, comes with everything included in the Deluxe Edition.
However, on top of the Deluxe Edition content, the Founders Edition also comes with the Right to Rule collection and the Founders Content pack bonuses. Here’s a breakdown of the different editions of Civilization 7:
Standard Edition ($69.99)
- Base game
- Pre-order bonuses
Deluxe Edition ($99.99)
- Base game
- Pre-order bonuses
- 5 days early access
- Crossroads of the World collection
- Deluxe Content pack
Founders Edition ($129.99)
- Base game
- Pre-order bonuses
- 5 days early access
- Crossroads of the World collection
- Deluxe Content pack
- Right to Rule collection
- Founders Content pack
If you’re curious about the pre-order bonus, that includes the Tecumseh and Shawnee pack.
Should You Buy Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Founders Edition?
For the asking price of $130, the Founders Edition of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is a hard sell. Unless you’re a diehard fan of the Civilization franchise and want access to every single piece of content Firaxis Games has to offer for the title, day one, there’s very little reason to get the Founders Edition. While yes, the Right to Rule and Founders Content packs are quite attractive, they are not really worth $50 extra.
If you’re okay with missing out on the Deluxe and Founders Edition exclusives, it’s best to simply grab the Standard Edition for $70. Furthermore, you can always buy the Founders and Deluxe Edition content separately later down the road.
