Find out if there is romance in Monster Hunter Wilds between the Hunter and other characters like Gemma and Alma.
Monster Hunter Wilds has a really gripping story that will keep you at the edge for hours. You will come across a plethora of characters and NPCs in this game. That said, there are some characters who remain constant throughout. These include Gemma, Alma, and Nata from your own expedition group. Other characters like Olivia, Werner, and some others from different hunting units are also present.
With a plethora of characters who are canonically important to the story, you might wonder if there is romance in Monster Hunter Wilds. While there is a good plot here, there is unfortunately no romance in Monster Hunter Wilds. That said, there is a very significant bond between the Hunter’s party and we will explore more of it in this article.
No Romance in Monster Hunter Wilds, But Characters Share a Deep Bond
The Hunter shares a deep bond with Gemma and Alma. Despite the absence of romance in Monster Hunter Wilds, the depth of understanding and support that these characters have for each other is massive.
The Hunter’s Bond With Gemma
Gemma is the dedicated Smithy of the Hunter’s party, and she accompanies the group on every major hunt. As the Hunter, you will have to frequent Gemma’s store very frequently. At times, you will also notice an additional dialog button, where Gemma will often shower some words of care and affirmation for the Hunter.
It is also shown that the Hunter and Gemma are long-time acquaintances, possibly from their childhood. In a particular mission where The Black Flame (Nu Udra) wreaks havoc in the Azuz village and stops their proceedings, Gemma is the one who takes up an empowering role and encourages the villagers to actively look for alternatives.
After you kill Nu Udra and restore the village’s functions, a cutscene is shown where Maki thanks Gemma for encouraging her when she had completely broken down. After the two share a heartfelt moment, the Hunter comes to meet Gemma at her shop.
He applauds Gemma for her actions, with the latter saying how Maki’s face lit up when all the problems were solved. The Hunter shares some banter about how a younger Gemma and Maki were similar. The Hunter says:
“And the little girl that used to be a lot like her…Does she approve?”
To this, Gemma replies:
“Oh, yikes. Are we really going there? I guess…little Gemma would be ugly-crying her eyes out. That’s how proud she’d be.”
Despite there being no romance between them in Monster Hunter Wilds, their warm friendship will add a hearty flair to your journey more than once.
The Hunter’s Bond With Alma
Alma and the Hunter meet for the first time when their particular Hunting unit was formed. That said, the two have formed a sense of camaraderie and care throughout the journey of Monster Hunter Wilds. For the first time, the role of the Guild has been properly shown in this game. The exact duties of Alma, the handler, have also been explored. During any dire scenario, the Hunter will always ask for Alma’s confirmation regarding the “hunt” in general. Since the Handler is a direct representative of the Guild, her authority stands strong.
Other than that, the two also share an emotional bond that goes just beyond the typical hunter-handler relation. In a side mission titled “What We Protect”, a visibly shaken Alma on the verge of tears and a breakdown will confide in the Hunter that a team she had sent to survey the lands has encroached upon Blangonga territory, and all the researchers are under threat.
Alma takes the blame on herself here, and even after the Hunter deals with the monster, she is upset. At this point, the Hunter calms Alma down and consoles her. This goes on to prove how the bond between these two characters deepened considerably throughout their journey in Monster Hunter Wilds.
