YouTuber Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. led a football team against fellow content creator Kai Cenat’s squad in a National Football League (NFL) show match on February 8, 2025. Speed met Olympic champion Sha’Carri Richardson and asked her for a race during the event.

Richardson won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay race at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also won the 100m and 4x100m World Championship titles at Budapest in 2023. The 24-year-old sprinter from Texas refused to race Speed and told him to train first. She added that she does not race for money and asked the YouTuber to prove himself and make it to the 2028 Olympics.\

IShowSpeed said that everyone engages in “dunking” on him and makes excuses. Richardson and Speed entered a friendly argument where she asked him to do an Olympian workout and train. Speed agreed to come to Texas and race her “soon.”

Sha’Carri Richardson Wants To Train IShowSpeed

In December 2024, IShowSpeed reacted to a video comparing soccer player Kylian Mbappé and Sha’Carri Richardson’s sprinting speeds. He was surprised to know that the Olympic sprinter was faster than one of his favorite soccer players. The YouTuber said:

“I gotta race Sha’Carri Richardson, y’all, alright? I’m not gonna cap. Chat, we gotta set that up. There’s no way she’s faster than Mbappé, bro. She is? How do y’all know this though? She’s not faster than me, though. Me and her gotta race.”

Speed finally met Richardson at a NFL event and asked her to race him. She said:

“I don’t race for free.”

Her response surprised Speed and he said everyone just likes “dunking” on him.

The sprinter said that Speed needed to train before they could race together:

“Do an Olympian track workout and then we gonna have a race. But you gotta do an Olympian track workout. You say you gonna be in the 2028 (Olympics) right baby? You say you gonna be in 2028? Alright bet”

Speed said he would come to Texas to train and race her “soon”. While IShowSpeed didn’t get to race Richardson, his team beat Kai Cenat’s NFL showmatch team at a Superbowl promo event.

Speed Previously Raced Olympic Champion Noah Lyles For $100,000

This is not the first time IShowSpeed challenged an Olympic champion to a race. In November 2024, the YouTuber went up against American Olympic Champion Noah Lyles for a video. James “MrBeast” Donaldson introduced Speed to Lyles and asked if they would like to race for $100,000.

MrBeast told Lyles and Speed that the winner would get to donate $100,000 to a charity of their choosing. The two competitors engaged in banter, and Speed was confident in his ability to win. However, the YouTuber could not keep up during their bout with the Olympic champion.

Speed lost the race to Lyles, and the Olympian made the YouTuber change his name to “IShowSlow” temporarily. While Speed wanted a rematch, Lyles declined and said that he would rather race someone else in the future.
