In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Goro Majima is the main protagonist. After an incident at the beginning of the game, a kid named Noah Rich finds him washed ashore and saves him. Masaru, the cook of the ship, properly explains to Majima what exactly Ambergris is. He says that the Chinese word for Ambergris means “calcified saliva expelled from the mouth of a benevolent dragon.” Additionally, he also adds that it is a byproduct of whale digestion and can revitalize the nervous system and the heart when consumed. Ambergris is a famous form of Chinese medicine.
The Ambergris found in the lost treasure of Esperanza is of the highest purity due to its white color. Therefore, Masaru concludes that its color might be why it is rumored to grant immortality. Masaru also estimates that the piece of Ambergris they are searching for is worth millions of dollars in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
How Is Ambergris Connected to Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii?
Throughout most of the game, the sole reason for finding the Elixir of Life is to help Noah. Majima truly wanted to help Noah and repay him for saving his life. Unfortunately, near the end of the game, the crew discovers that the Ambergris is unobtainable and must go without it.
Ambergris is also the reason that led to Majima losing his memories. Near the end of the game, it is revealed that Kazuma Kiryu, the protagonist of a previous Like a Dragon title, has cancer. Majima, who is Kiryu’s old friend, sets out to find the treasure in hope that it might cure his friend.
