YouTuber Logan Paul and soccer player Lionel Messi are at odds with each other over their energy drink brands. Messi’s Mas+ energy drink brand sued Paul’s Prime Hydration last year over trademark infringements. Paul countersued Messi, initiating a two-way legal battle between both personalities. On February 12, 2025, Paul agreed to drop all charges if Messi fought him in a boxing match.

Prime Energy drink launched in the United Kingdom in June 2022 after YouTuber Olajide “KSI” Olayinka Williams Olatunji and Logan Paul co-founded the Prime brand. It saw a global rollout and entered other major markets by 2024. Lionel Messi’s Mas+ energy drink launched in June 2024 for the American market. Comparisons between the energy drink brands surfaced online, and Mas+ sued Prime in October 2024 over alleged trademark infringement.

Prime Energy has requested Mas+ to change its design and tagline to avoid conflicts. It is also countersuing for damages due to lost sales since Mas+’s release. Lionel Messi has yet to address Logan Paul’s offer to end the lawsuit via a boxing match.

Logan Paul Accuses Lionel Messi of Trademark Infringement

Logan Paul revealed that he is countersuing Lionel Messi over trademark infringement. Even though Messi’s energy drink brand is already pursuing a lawsuit against Prime, KSI, and Paul agreed to launch a new lawsuit against Mas+. Paul said on social media:

“Brother, you copied us. Everyone saw it. They saw what you did. Everyone notices it and then we got sued. Hold on, wait, what? This ain’t justice. So we countersued, obviously. If you can’t beat the best, you gotta be the best. But that’s illegal. That’s trademark infringement. We’re holding him accountable, and it’s harassment?”

Paul said that he would drop charges against Messi if the soccer player agreed to face him in a boxing ring. The YouTuber received mixed feedback on social media after calling out the soccer star. Many of his fans agreed that Mas+ and Prime’s packaging have similarities. Others feel that many energy drink brands have similar packaging and that Paul is just pursuing a lawsuit to market Prime.

Mas+ and Prime Energy Lawsuit Explained

Lionel Messi’s Mas+ energy drink sued Prime Hydration over a “trade dress infringement.” A trade dress refers to a brand’s look, feel, packaging, or colors. There are trade dress protection laws designed to safeguard brand goodwill and reputation.

Logan Paul brought up the lawsuit in an Impaulsive podcast episode in October 2024. The YouTuber said:

“I’ll explain it to you. He is asking for, I think it’s called like a rush judgment. He is asking the courts to determine as soon as possible whether or not he is indeed infringing on our trademark. Now we haven’t officially accused him of infringing on our trademark, there have been conversations.”

Messi’s company allegedly does not want to resolve the case. It wants to go through a legal battle and is trying to fast-track the process with a “rush judgment” appeal. Judges have not reached a verdict in the legal battle so far.
