In this guide, we’ll explore some of the tips you can use to complete a non-lethal playthrough in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater.

Doing a non-lethal playthrough in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is by no means easy, but it is possible. As it is, stealth is a major part of your core experience in the game. While Naked Snake is an adept soldier, going into every situation guns blazing simply won’t end well, even for him. However, it’s one thing to silently take down enemies and another to simply leave them as they are while getting away unnoticed.
In this guide, we’ll provide a few handy tips that can help you to leave all enemies unharmed, besides the scripted boss fights, where you have to kill your opponents.
Tips for a Non-lethal Playthrough in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater
The following are some of the ways to ensure that Snake doesn’t end up with blood on his hands during your playthrough.
Rely Only on Non-lethal Weapons

While Snake has a variety of weapons in his arsenal, depending on how far you’ve progressed in the game, only a few of those are non-lethal. The Mk22 handgun is a prime example of this. It’s a weapon that fires tranq rounds at enemies and can put them to sleep.
Similarly, if you’re playing at the Very Easy difficulty mode, you get the EZ gun that allows you to non-lethally take out enemies. The Mk22 isn’t the easiest weapon to use, however. It has a slow rate of fire, which means you need to be deadly accurate with it or you risk detection. Also, the tranq rounds fired from it suffer from significant bullet drop. So, you’ll need some practice when trying to fire off accurate shots at enemies who’re at medium range.
Alternatively, you can also use Stun Grenades to knock out enemies. However, the concussive explosion needs to happen as near to the enemy as possible for them to get knocked out. Otherwise, they will just be stunned momentarily.
Use Non-lethal Takedowns
You can use CQC to put enemies to sleep as well. The best way to pull this off is to approach an enemy unseen, preferably from behind. Make sure Snake doesn’t have any weapons armed. When you get close enough, you can use the CQC prompt to silently take down the enemy in a non-lethal way. The trick is to do this in a way that the other enemies in the area don’t spot you. So, you might have to carefully study the patterns of movement for each foe before you can pull the takedown move perfectly.
Later on in the game, you’ll also get the Handkerchief. This item will allow you to put enemies to sleep using CQC far more easily. However, you can only use each Handkerchief a limited number of times.

Use Environmental Deathtraps
You can use the environment to often gain the upper hand in a situation. And the game doesn’t seem to count environmental kills as kills. So, if you cause an enemy to fall to his death, the game’s logic is that the fall killed him and not you. So, you can take advantage of this exploit to kill some of your enemies without ruining your non-lethal playthrough.
Another example of this is taking out enemies using explosive barrels. Again, the game considers this acceptable in a non-lethal playthrough. However, keep in mind that triggering such an explosion is noisy and will draw the attention of nearby guards. So, this could actually count against you if you aren’t careful.
Some Tools Can Come in Handy

Besides weapons, Snake also has access to the latest gadgets. For instance, the Anti-Personnel Sensor, Active Sonar, and Motion Detector are all tools that you should deploy regularly. They can help you assess where enemies might be, thereby allowing you to come up with plans to deal with them in a pacifist manner. However, one thing to note is that these tools do not differentiate between animals and people. So, they may flag wildlife nearby, and you could falsely assume them to be enemies.
If you manage to go through the entire game without killing any guards, you will earn the Peace Walker trophy. Besides that, some portions of the game might go much smoother, such as The Sorrow boss fight.
