Here’s all you need to know about Ajarakan and the best way to beat it in Monster Hunter Wilds by targeting its weaknesses.

Monster Hunter Wilds takes things to another level by introducing Ajarakan to the already astonishing beastly roster. You can fight him in both Low and High ranks. Moreover, the materials that he drops are different in each rank. This monster may look intimidating, but Monster Hunter veterans won’t find it difficult hunting him down once they get to know his weakness and patterns.
Ajarakan Overview
It is difficult to describe Ajarakan’s appearance without some discrepancies. Much like many other monsters in the game, it is a hybrid of animals that we are used to seeing in real life. For example, it behaves like a gorilla for the most part, while the appearance resembles a mix of a bird and an armadillo. It is usually found in the Basin Biome, and you will encounter it as part of a main quest. Ajarakan is affiliated with fire and can scare the Hunters who dare enter its habitat.
The monster is not always on fire but can set itself ablaze whenever needed. Players will often notice when Ajarakan is doing so because it will carry out a special animation for the same. It can also move around its habitat using the ledge above to climb or take big leaps to avoid your attacks.
How To Unlock Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ajarakan is not a “post-endgame” boss. Although you can hunt it even after completing the main story, you will first encounter it as part of the primary questline itself. The first time that you encounter it is in Chapter 2. Here, he is usually found in the Basin Biome region. You will find yourself in the area to hunt the Ajarakan as part of the Long-Forgotten Flame main mission.
Once you have defeated it and moved on to complete the entire storyline, there is a slight chance that you may also find it in Wyveria. So, if you have finished Chapter 3, try visiting Wyveria and finding Ajarakan if you don’t want to go to the Basin Biome. Once you feel like you have reached the interior of an active volcano, know that you are in the right place, and Ajarakan must be nearby.
Ajarakan Weaknesses

Ajarakan’s Elemental Weakness
- Water-type Damage
- Ice-type Damage
Ajarakan’s Status Weakness
- Poison
- Stun
- Paralysis
- Sleep
- Blast
- Exhaust
Among the two elemental weaknesses, Water is the more effective one. Besides that, Ajarakan is weak to all the Status ailments mentioned almost equally. We suggest that you avoid giving him Fire damage because he will be pretty much immune to it.
Ajarakan’s Weak Points
The primary spots that you need to aim for are its head, tail, and arms. Out of all these, its tail can be severed. Additionally, you will find that the Fanged Beast is fairly weak against Slashing and Bludgeoning damage. So, we suggest that you keep damaging it using Slashing attacks and primary use Water-type attacks to your advantage for the best results.
Best Weapons for Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

Primarily, the weapons that you should care about when fighting against Ajarakan are Dual Swords, Longsword, and Hammer. We have selected Dual Swords and a Longsword to ensure that we inflict some severe damage to the enemy. Based on what your playstyle is, you can choose either of them.
If you prefer a more fast-paced battle where you outrun a giant monster, go for Dual Swords like Master Sabers. However, a Longsword like Windclaw Kiribami serves as a good alternative if you want to deal more damage at the cost of your speed.
Lastly, a Hammer in your inventory will be perfect to deal Bludgeon damage against the monster. While this is not our primary suggestion, you can go for it if you are not comfortable with the other two weapons.
Items To Carry for the Battle
Don’t forget to carry these items in your Radial Menu for your fight against Ajarakan:
- Pitfall Trap
- Shock Trap
- Flash Pod
- Nutberry
If you acquired the free Assistance Pack, you will get a Shock Trap for free as well.
How To Beat Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ajarakan’s favorite attack is his punches. These inflict Blast damage on the receiver. The best way to deal with these attacks is dodging out of the way. Most of the attacks will be in a straight line. Including these punches and many attacks that are yet to come. Secondly, the beast has an AoE attack that travels in a straight line. If you are hit by it, the floor will light on fire and burn down everything in its path.
This giant monkey monster also has a “rage” state. Ajarakan will light itself up on fire and gain a powerful AoE attack. The ability in question is more of an AoE explosion that can kill any Hunter right away. Just take note of its movements and keep avoiding its path. Moreover, if the monster starts to spin, simply increase the distance.
Lastly, after you have dealt enough damage to it, Ajarakan will go back to its nest and try jumping on the floor. Once again you have to keep track of its movements as much as you can.
Tips To Defeat Ajarakan
Here are some tips that you may find useful in your fight against the beast:
- Plan your movements based on how Ajarakan is moving. Since it has several AoE attacks, just try to stay as far away as possible once you pick up on the visual and/or audial cues.
- Since most of the attacks from this monster are in one-line we suggest you keep flanking the monster.
- The best trick to avoid damage is to evade the attacks altogether.
- Only move in to attack when you think you can deliver enough damage before the attack window ends.
- Be patient and don’t rush.
