Cooking in Monster Hunter Wilds is unlocked after you give honey to the Provisions Shop in the Base Camp in the Windward Plains who then gives you the Portable BBQ Grill. To cook meals, you will need to follow these steps:
- Either go into your tent in the region’s base camp and select the option of grilling a meal or select the Portable BBQ Grill in the wilds during any expedition.
- You will have the option of choosing the Recommended Meal (with or without any Additional Ingredients), preparing a Custom Meal (where you choose the Ration, the Additional Ingredient, and the Finishing Touches), or selecting a Favorite Meal. To learn more about what is available and the stats provided, check Monster Hunter Wilds: All Cooking Ingredients and Their Effects.
- Before you start cooking, you will be able to see the stat boosts involved with that meal. Once you are happy, you can start the process.
- A short cutscene will take place where you will be able to see your character use the exact ingredients that you selected for your meal (which, in my opinion, adds immensely to the immersion). The Hunter will then proceed to eat it.
How To Grill Meat in Monster Hunter Wilds

To Grill Meat in MH Wilds, follow these steps:
- Once you are in your tent or have activated the Portable BBQ Grill, select Grill Meat.
- Provided you have Raw Meat, the Hunter will begin grilling it.
- You will need to pay close attention to the texture of the meat as you can end up with both a Rare Steak and a Burnt Meat.
- Your goal is to get Well Done Steaks in Monster Hunter Wilds while you are grilling meat. If you do the steps correctly, 1x Raw Meat can yield around 12x Well Done Steaks. Check out our detailed guide on getting Well Done Steaks perfectly to learn more.
Well Done Steaks provides massive boosts to HP and Stamina and also refills them completely. It can also remove debuffs like Bleeding.
