Everything you need to know about the Monster Hunter Wilds weapon quiz and how to use it to help decide which weapon suits your playstyle.
It’s no secret that the Monster Hunter series is one of the most complicated RPGs out there. The Monster Hunter franchise isn’t technically a traditional RPG, as it doesn’t employ a “leveling system” or “stat-based progression,” two things that are synonymous with the role-playing game genre.
Instead, the weapons and armor you choose serve as the primary means of progression in any Monster Hunter game. This also holds true for the series’ newest entry, Monster Hunter Wilds. However, with 14 different weapon types to choose from, it can get really confusing for a new player to decide on the weapon that will best suit their preferred playstyle.
To help new players onboard into the series with as little friction as possible, Capcom has added a really handy “weapon quiz” in-game. Furthermore, the same quiz is also available to check out on PlayStation’s official website. Here’s how to take the weapon quiz in Monster Hunter Wilds to help you decide on the best weapon for your playstyle.

The weapon quiz is essentially a set of questions that Alma asks when you first start the game on a fresh save file. These questions are designed in a way that helps the game determine the perfect weapon type for you based on your answers. The questions usually revolve around the kind of playstyle you prefer, what you’re looking for in a weapon, and more. Based on how you answer each of the questions, the game assigns a weapon to you.
However, you can choose to change the weapon type later to try different playstyles. It should be noted that the in-game weapon quiz can only be taken once at the start of a new save file.
Well, there’s a way to take the quiz a few more times, albeit outside of the game. That said, here are the questions that are asked in the quiz:
- How would you describe your fighting style?
- What do you look for in a weapon?
- What style of attack do you prefer?
- How important is defense?
- What’s your preferred approach when attacking from range?
Even if you take the quiz and get a weapon assigned to you, it’s always best to try out other weapon types in the Training Arena before settling on what you plan to main.
How To Take the Weapon Quiz
As previously mentioned in this article, you can take the weapon quiz when you first start the game on a fresh save file. After completing the character creation and the opening cinematic, you will get the chance to talk to Alma, the Handler. Alma will recommend taking the quiz, which will allow her to figure out the best weapon for the Hunter.
The second method to take the quiz is by visiting the Monster Hunter Wilds page on PlayStation’s website. Scroll down on the page, and you will get the option to take the “weapon quiz.” The quiz on PlayStation’s website comes with the same questions that are asked in-game.
