Nickmercs, also known as Nick Kolcheff is a popular video game streamer who has been the center of a number of controversies in 2024.
Popular video game streamer Nickmercs was involved in drama a number of times in 2024. He was barred numerous times on the streaming platform Twitch for sharing his unacceptable views during the streams. He is the co-owner of the FaZe Clan and has been making headlines since June 2024.
Here are some of the controversies he was involved in over the year.
1. Nickmercs Uses Anti-Trans Slurs
On June 28, 2024, Nickmercs was kicked off the streaming platform Twitch for using an anti-trans slur. He went on a long rant during the stream and said,
“There’s no such thing as trans people. That’s something that you created. So, have fun in your little dreamland, but that sh*t is not even real. Let me bring it down for you, all right? Pe**s – dude. Va***a – girl. Done! Don’t come in here with f**ing trans sh*t, bruh! Ridiculous!”
This is not the first time Nickmercs has been involved in anti-LGBTQ+ drama and has promoted conspiracy theories relating to the same. In 2023, he tweeted about an alleged assault against a pro-LGBTQ+ protest in Florida, saying that,
“They should leave little children alone. That’s the real issue.”
However, it was a reference to a conspiracy theory that said that the LGBTQ+ people are “groomers” – a claim built on homophobic prejudice with no evidence behind it.
Post the ban, he addressed the issue on X, saying,
“Apparently that’s a derogatory term. That’s on me. Next time I’ll use mental-health disorder.”
2. Call Of Duty Removed Nick’s Bundle
Post his LGBTQ+ remarks, Activision removed Nickmercs’ customizable bundle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Moreover, they took to X to make the announcement, and the tweet read,
“Due to recent events, we have removed the “NICKMERCS Operator” bundle from the Modern Warfare II and Warzone store. We are focused on celebrating PRIDE with our employees and our community.”
Though Nick did not address the issue directly, however, he talked about the drama at the time, he said,
“So, the video bothered me. I just don’t think it’s any place for a teacher or a school, I don’t think it’s the place to speak about things like that. And it’s not that I think it shouldn’t be spoken about. If that’s what you got from that Tweet, you’re just wrong. I don’t have any quarrels with anybody here, I don’t have any quarrel with people on the internet.”
3. Nickmercs’ Feud With Ava Kris Tyson
Nick addressed the allegations regarding pedophilia against Ava Kris Tyson after she was accused of communicating with a 13-year-old when she herself was 20 years old. While everyone was commenting on it, Nickmercs, who had previously commented on her trans identity, also shared his opinion.
He also said,
“You should be ashamed of yourself. Leaving behind your wife & child, to play pretend. One day you’ll wake up, and realize what you’ve done.”
To which Katie, Ava Kris Tyson’s ex-wife, replied on X,
“Mine and Tucker’s life are both better than ever. Tucker’s life is kept relatively private, as much as it can be, solely because of people like you who try to make a headline topic with a 4-year-old’s life blasted as a headline. There are plenty of other things in this world to talk about, other than a 4-year-old who will one day see all of this. Imagine having to get introduced to the internet and having all of your life as headline topics. All of his life bashed all over the internet. I don’t know who Nick is, and I don’t care who he is, but as a parent himself, is this the example we want to set for our children? When we don’t agree with someone, we bash them? Their families? Drag others’ children through the trenches, by spreading false information about their lives? Be better. Set better examples.”
